Instinctual Memory report verification

Verification

The current reports support publication of a bounded implementation account. Both previous runtime blockers are repaired. One local selection-inventory limit remains below. The supplied report-check contains no structural failure. Runtime supplied two corrected answers; the other answer files are empty. I assessed the answers against source, not as proof that the repairs hold.

I independently read the source implementing the consequential producers, gates, intervening selectors and consumers. Checkout HEAD equals the reviewed boundary. The tracked top-level tree and executable/export/CLI dispatch support the memory-system, whole-system classification in boundary. No shipped memory-loop responsibility needs exclusion or a different boundary. All reads and searches used SRC-1 in the Source register, at the frozen revision. Source code and shipped instructions support implementation and doctrine/design, not observed operation. The past-session framing and fixtures in SRC-1 tests/recorded_search.rs do not supply a successful execution trace or causal comparison. I executed no target code, tests, examples or provider calls.

Correction dispositions

Fragment matching: corrected. I reread SRC-1 src/consolidate.rs, check_llm_fact, quote_found and normalization. The lasting flag, statement bounds and evidence minimum are distinct from source matching. Matching drops normalized fragments shorter than eight characters, rejects an empty qualifying set, and checks the surviving fragments in order. The deduction involving an unmatched short suffix follows from this code. The corrected forcing case and RT-RTE-journal-consolidation now state this actual guarantee and expressly reject the every-fragment comment's broader meaning. They agree with EPI-RTE-candidate-gate. Neither passage now implies exact byte equality, matching every submitted fragment, semantic entailment or verified lastingness. The changed descriptions and the reconciliation's disposition are supported; the previous blocker is dismissed.

Local-backfill completion: corrected. I compared local acquisition's writer construction and return with the explicit flush sites in SRC-1 src/cli.rs, cmd_ingest, cmd_backfill and cmd_backfill_all, and with SRC-1 src/journal.rs, BulkWriter::drop. Local backfill prints completion before returning without an explicit final flush. Drop logs flush errors instead of propagating them. The other three handlers explicitly flush before their final completion report. The runtime account now distinguishes these boundaries, and RT-RTE-host-hooks carries the dependent limitation for its local-backfill child. Bulk locking, deduplication, tail recovery and the supported explicit-flush paths are preserved. The generic acquisition account in MEM-RTE-adapter-ingestion claims a protocol, not successful final flushing on every path. The previous blocker is dismissed without converting completion into observed durability.

Record and source-support checks

Runtime entry and components. SRC-1 src/main.rs, src/lib.rs, src/cli.rs, src/mcp.rs, src/http_serve.rs and src/shell.rs establish the direct CLI and public-library alternatives as well as shared-operation transport dispatch. HTTP's bind restriction is not caller authentication; the finite memory-shell interpreter is not an OS sandbox. SRC-1 src/git.rs hardens its command environment but waits with wait_with_output without enforcing its timeout field. The runtime's guarantee owners, covered paths and alternate-path qualifications are supported.

RT-CMP-llm-config, RT-CMP-jev-reranker and RT-CMP-laya-reranker match SRC-1 src/consolidate.rs, src/jev.rs and src/search/laya.rs. They distinguish configurable remote clients from cached local inference. The inspected clients perform inference, not parameter training; family labels and remote aliases do not pin exact weights. RT-RTE-integration-admission matches model selection/pull and SRC-1 src/setup.rs: caller configuration changes future machinery without an independent quality-promotion gate. Setup embeds and installs RT-OBJ-mem-skill, registers hooks and MCP, and supports removal. The skill's review and trust instructions remain host procedure, not enforced approval or demonstrated compliance.

Acquisition and retained objects. SRC-1 src/ingest.rs and src/journal.rs support MEM-RTE-adapter-ingestion and MEM-OBJ-journal-event. Codex parsing filters subagent rollouts and non-final assistant channels, and strips environment text. Markdown, Calendar and Voice supply Note-role events; consolidation labels every Note as memory_file. This defeats treating the prompt's curated-file premise as authenticated provenance. Public Journal append computes its sequence before locking and lacks BulkWriter's seen-ID deduplication. These qualifications are retained rather than generalized into observed races or complete transcript coverage.

MEM-OBJ-fact, MEM-OBJ-source-ref, MEM-OBJ-controls, MEM-OBJ-checkpoint, MEM-OBJ-dispositions and MEM-OBJ-entity-display match SRC-1 src/fact.rs, src/entity.rs, src/controls.rs, src/checkpoint.rs, src/consolidate.rs and src/index.rs. Fact upsert replaces the stored fact, including its source vector. Placement can drop a proposal while its event still enters accepted dispositions. Consolidation clears checkpoint outcomes and retains them separately. Controls use ID membership, not interpretation of removal reasons or suppression-kind comments. Body/index renderings use stored Active status, not every lexical eligibility gate. These objects have different consumers and evidential roles; no record turns their persistence into truth acceptance or automatic learning from rejection reasons.

Extraction and publication. I traced RT-RTE-journal-consolidation, EPI-OBJ-proposal, EPI-RTE-rules-extraction, EPI-RTE-llm-proposal and EPI-RTE-candidate-gate through SRC-1 src/consolidate.rs. The three route Part of: relations correctly identify proposal/check substeps inside the batch container. Rules omit directive polarity in the preference capture. Model extraction sends bounded user/Note text and a bounded pre-batch statement summary; actual linked outputs are absent. Thus indeterminate content relations are justified rather than automatically classifying requested extraction as entailment or conjecture. Placement, old-file-source retirement, dispositions and global window checkpoint advancement remain distinct effects. The records preserve scope-filter loss and retirement without successful replacement extraction. Wired implementation and uninspected operation are supported.

RT-RTE-immediate-change and RT-CLM-validated-publication match SRC-1 src/change.rs, src/repo.rs, src/validate.rs, src/ops.rs and src/cli.rs. The publisher checks canonical receipt digests, validates the candidate, then CAS-updates the branch. Shared operations instead return early on receipt existence. Public FnValidator permits different validation policy. DomainValidator parses/checks candidate structures but does not implement its comments' parent-checkpoint or parent-only-supersession comparisons. CLI assertions synthesize source references; shared assertions have empty sources. Neither invokes extraction quote matching. Shipped change callers run intent recovery before a fresh apply, while direct apply and cleanup have different recovery contracts. The reports correctly bound structural publication and replay rather than granting universal truth, durability or semantic rollback.

Read-back and behavioral authority. SRC-1 src/ops.rs, src/search/lexical.rs, src/search/journal.rs, src/search/rerank.rs, src/hook.rs and src/cli.rs support RT-RTE-memory-retrieval, RT-RTE-host-hooks, RT-RTE-instruction-writeback, RT-BAP-host-context and RT-BAP-instruction-file. Fact shortlisting precedes project/source filtering. Raw events remain an independent retrieval corpus. Entity/ID reads and current-head history do not uniformly use lexical temporal checks. Start reads preferences with a count cap; Prompt uses lexical matching and overlap with separate budgets. Detached sync ignores subprocess outcomes. Ordinary delivery omits stored evidence quotes. Writeback does not load Controls or apply temporal eligibility, and force replaces the file. Markdown ingestion does not strip the generated block, leaving the reported feedback path available. These findings establish conditional statement delivery and later extraction use, not observed host activation or uniform withdrawal. The omitted pool detail has the local disposition in Limits.

Maintenance and workflow. RT-RTE-tidy-maintenance, RT-RTE-erasure-maintenance and the workflow account match SRC-1 src/tidy.rs, src/erasure.rs, src/cli.rs, src/journal.rs and skills/mem/SKILL.md. Tidy orders duplicate candidates by length and asks an optional model about remaining ID/statement batches, without source evidence. Keep IDs veto findings, but apply recomputes rather than loading an approved preview. Model error precedes publication; successful apply publishes retractions, controls and index together. The workflow's readiness and conditional sync, host review, failure communication and final communication follow the skill without inventing internal multi-agent delegation. No-change, degraded duplicate-only and returned-error paths are preserved. No immutable review artifact or automatic cleanup recovery is claimed.

Erasure publishes deletion with Completed state before journal redaction, history rewriting and intent cleanup. Source-event targets derive from removed current facts; a retry after their removal cannot reconstruct those references by reading the current tree. Whole-event redaction can also remove context for surviving facts. History scrub needles are IDs/statements; deleting matching facts removes their attached evidence, not an independently demonstrated semantic evidence matcher. The reports' sequential-effect and external-copy qualifications preserve a supported removal mechanism without guaranteeing complete destruction or crash recovery.

Tasks, derived metadata and evaluation. RT-OBJ-tasks and RT-RTE-task-update match SRC-1 src/ops.rs: caller title, lock and expected-version check, followed by an in-place file write outside Git publication. Storage does not establish task execution. MEM-RTE-index-rebuild and EPI-RTE-index-rebuild match SRC-1 src/index.rs: sorted bounded rendering, stored-status counts and unchanged-head return. Entailed metadata is restricted to that parsed-snapshot domain.

RT-RTE-search-evaluation and EPI-RTE-search-benchmark match SRC-1 src/evaluation.rs and src/cli.rs. Expected IDs and required/prohibited strings constitute a bounded caller oracle; elapsed-time measurement is a different check. Neither output automatically promotes a model or revises production memory. Missing rubric provenance, actual results and controlled intervention prevent broader benefit or causal claims. EPI-CLM-sourced-facts and EPI-CLM-lasting-facts accurately retain SRC-1 README.md and extraction-prompt doctrine. The epistemic ledger distinguishes generation, checking, operational admission, retention and reliance instead of conflating them into verified knowledge. Its conclusions about unestablished acceptance/integration and improvement remain scoped to the assessed routes, not inferred universal absence from provider opacity.

Reconciliation and omission-search disposition

I checked every declared record's source-support and status meaning, the three Part of: relations, all amendments and the integration dispositions in reconciliation. No evidenced-absence declaration needs an absence search. EPI-OBJ-source-ref and EPI-OBJ-fact identify the same retained parts as their MEM counterparts; the index declarations identify the same rebuild. The three supersessions preserve the independent epistemic assessments and leave all IDs declared. Proposal, display data, progress, dispositions, controls and tasks remain distinct; substeps do not invalidate the batch container. Source anchors and retained passages support the claimed implementation/doctrine layers, not observed or causal strength. Deterministic citation/quotation agreement is the content check's responsibility, not a substitute for this semantic judgment.

The current reconciliation correctly removes the previous fragment conflict after runtime repair. Broader Note origins, public append, nonuniform read eligibility, accepted-event counts, bounded withdrawal and recomputed cleanup review are compatible refinements, not unresolved opposed findings. Its local-backfill disposition matches direct source inspection. No current material conflict lacks a disposition or needs analyst correction.

Omission questions came from the frozen tracked tree, CLI/export inventory and producer/consumer dependencies, not only record anchors. Could an alternate writer undermine the source gate or publication guarantee? Direct assertions, public append, custom validation and non-Git writes provide supported qualifications already retained. Could another consumer use source evidence or cleanup criticism to confer stronger warrant or bind application to reviewed content? Read/history, hooks, writeback, later extraction and tidy apply support selective statement use and ID controls, not that stronger witness. Could evaluation or component configuration automatically close a production-improvement loop? Evaluation, bench, setup and model selection establish reports or caller configuration, not automatic promotion. The sibling/JEV search establishes the one inventory omission retained below, without changing ranking-versus-verification or conditional-delivery conclusions.

Further optional omission expansion stopped because each selected question has a source-supported disposition, no identified material challenge remains undisposed, and the emitted conclusions do not require an exhaustive discovery/scoring inventory. Uninspected discovery plumbing, external hosts, live stores and provider internals do not become evidenced absence. Existing local qualifications adequately prevent deployment, transcript-completeness, semantic-quality and benefit conclusions.

Limits

  • RT-RTE-memory-retrieval and its memory annotation retain a partial selection inventory. SRC-1 src/search/journal.rs can append up to two short same-event siblings of clipped leading hits; SRC-1 src/ops.rs preserves zero-score siblings for reranking; SRC-1 src/search/rerank.rs selects five positive-score baseline leaders and zero-score rows up to an eight-row JEV pool, then appends unjudged baseline rows. These omitted budgets do not invalidate bounded shortlisting, fallback, relevance ranking or conditional host delivery. Withhold exhaustive candidate-pool comparisons and any inference that every returned JEV-labelled hit was individually judged. The subset/tail distinction is explicit:

// Judged rows first, then the rest of the lexical order, so the page // is as full as the caller asked for. let hits = merged .into_iter() .map(|(_, hit)| hit) .chain(baseline.into_iter().filter(|h| !judged_ids.contains(&h.fact_id))) .take(limit) .collect(); --- src/search/rerank.rs
