Premise decomposition: Naur's retained passages do not establish a human-only theory bearer

Premises and counterexamples

  1. Within the retained passages, “someone,” “the agent who has knowledge,” and “the programmer” identify the role or actual contributor of the required world-understanding without making membership in the human class necessary for any possible bearer. — DOUBTFUL — In ordinary 1985 usage, “someone” denotes a person and “programmer” denotes a human occupational role; on a constitutive reading of those words, a nonhuman system with the stipulated functional discriminations still would not be the kind of bearer to which Naur assigns the decision. Look first at premise 1: decide whether Naur's retained uses of “someone” and “programmer” merely name the contributor in his examples or restrict the theory-bearer category to humans, because the latter reading would put the missing exclusivity premise inside the quoted text.
