No proposal collided with a registered record, and no ID was issued twice for one identity. Where a proposal's identity matched an existing record — the epistemic lens's convergent branch-predicate finding against the memory lens's MEM-AMD-5 — the two were merged into one amendment (RTE-6/a1) rather than issued separate IDs.
8.2 Corrections accepted, and what was rerun
Three records were found defective. In each case the orchestrator amended the canonical record and preserved the superseded value.
OBJ-5/c1(from the epistemic lens) is the consequential one.OBJ-5was registered as uniformly second-person instruction; it is roughly half third-person assertion. The record was misclassified by the very criterion it stated. Left standing, it would have licensed the conclusion that the tool description cannot mislead because directives have no truth value — which would have concealed the run's headline finding. Remedy: split intoOBJ-11/OBJ-12, narrowBAP-1, registerBAP-6. The orchestrator verified the correction directly againstSRC-1:148–157and:177–188before accepting it.ABS-2/a1(from the memory lens).ABS-2's search-boundary statement claimed to enumerate every read of the retained containers and missed two write-side reads (SRC-1:97,:100). Rerun scope: none. Per the instruction's correction branch, a lens that already derived its findings from the corrected source facts does not repeat its own work. The epistemic lens ran against the pre-ABS-2/a1 packet but derived its R6 row directly from SRC-1:96–101, so it never relied on the defective enumeration. No targeted read invalidated a downstream finding either (see the register's targeted-read table). No lens work was redone.
One judgement was referred to the orchestrator and resolved: the epistemic lens proposed RTE-8's rollback parenthetical as a possible third correction and declined on practical weight. The orchestrator concurs — the parenthetical is imprecise rather than misleading at the scope stated — and it is filed as amendment RTE-8/a1, keeping its epistemic consequence (an isError response does not warrant "nothing was retained").
8.3 Ownership check on shared routes
Runtime owns the complete control and context routes; the memory lens annotated read-back and activation; the epistemic lens annotated transformation, checking, warrant, acceptance, integration, and its two authorities. No lens rewrote a route's endpoints, revision, or evidence layer.

8.4 Apparent conflicts, resolved or preserved
OBJ-4'sbranchesfield: "verbatim caller text" vs "entailed derivation". The memory lens amendedRTE-7's "derived" characterization, insisting the returned tokens are caller-authored strings. The epistemic lens classified the same edge asentailed derivation. Not a conflict; complementary at different grains. The derivation is over which keys exist — a total function of the retained map, mechanically warranted inside the domain "this process's memory". The tokens are verbatim, unvalidated caller strings. Both hold: the artifact derives a true proposition about its own state, and the vocabulary of that proposition is authored by the caller. 8.5 Cross-lens guards
- Memory curation labels did not determine epistemic transformation. The memory lens's
append,create-on-first-use, andderivelabels are lineage descriptions; the epistemic lens classified the same edges independently from the source and reachedno content changefor both retention routes. No label was upgraded into a transformation. - Behavioral influence did not imply epistemic or operational authority.
BAP-1andBAP-6are the artifact's strongest behavioral channels and grant no epistemic authority over any thought's content and no operational authority over anything outside the process. - One revision, one boundary, one source register across every record in both lens outputs. Both cited the packet's IDs; neither minted a canonical ID, widened the boundary, or changed the revision.
9. Bounded synthesis
Organized around the deployed system's progression, not as concatenated lens reports.
9.1 What this artifact is, structurally
The sequentialthinking server is a 279-line MCP tool server with two request handlers, one in-memory class, and no external state of any kind. It has no filesystem, database, or network access; its dependency list is the MCP SDK, chalk, and an unused yargs. Read as an artifact rather than as a product, its per-call procedure is: validate four fields, raise totalThoughts if the caller overshot, append the record to an array, conditionally append the same reference to a branch bucket, render a coloured box to stderr, and return a five-field JSON status object.
9.2 Scheduling: the loop the tool is named after runs elsewhere
The artifact holds no scheduling responsibility whatsoever (ABS-10). There is no timer, loop, callback, continuation, or queue. nextThoughtNeeded — the field that would carry a continuation decision — is received from the caller and echoed back unchanged; the artifact forms no opinion about it. Iteration is the caller choosing to invoke the tool again.
This is the structural fact that shapes everything else. The advertised loop (LOOP-C) crosses the boundary: its next-step owner is the model, which is a declared external dependency. The artifact's entire contribution to that loop is a 54-line natural-language description delivered once with the tool list. Per the declared boundary kind, no conclusion here describes the behavior that crossing loop produces — whether the model in fact revises, branches, hypothesizes, or verifies is uninspected, and the artifact's silence on those operations says nothing about whether they occur.
9.3 Context assembly: the artifact selects nothing
There is no context selection at any point. RTE-1 returns the tool spec verbatim, unfiltered and unparameterized. RTE-7 returns the same five-field shape computed the same way on every call, with no query, relevance signal, recency, targeting, budget, or truncation. A branchId in the request does not filter the returned key set.
9.4 State and action: total retention, nil retrieval
The artifact retains every validated request forever — process-lifetime, unbounded, no eviction, no dedup, no size cap, and no discard path short of process termination (ABS-11). Retention duration is therefore the host's launch decision, not the artifact's.
Against that, the read side is two expressions: thoughtHistory.length and Object.keys(branches). No route returns a stored thought's content (ABS-2). Retained content is epistemically inaccessible from the moment it is stored — a stronger negative than "no retrieval was observed", resting on a full-file enumeration of every read of both containers.
External action is nil. The artifact touches nothing outside its process, requests no capability beyond tools: {}, and authorizes no caller. Its one egress besides the protocol response is the stderr render, which carries every thought's content verbatim to a channel with no consumer inside the boundary — and, notably, not to the model.
9.5 Memory return: real, and degenerate
Read-back exists under the run's definition and is worth stating precisely rather than rounding to zero. Two values accumulated through use return to later invocations: the branch-label set and the retained count. The label set is the only accumulated caller-authored text that ever comes back, and it comes back as opaque tokens with no content attached, admitted without validation, growing monotonically and never shrinking. The count is a process-lifetime counter of accepted calls — not of distinct reasoning steps — which can diverge arbitrarily from the thoughtNumber echoed two fields above it in the same object, and which carries earlier, unrelated thinking episodes into a new one.
So: retention is total, retrieval of content is nil, and the only accumulated authored text that returns is a set of branch labels. The thinness of this path prevents any conclusion that the artifact supplies prior reasoning back into a caller's context; the context that makes multi-step thinking work is the host's transcript, which exists because the model wrote the thoughts into its own turns.
9.6 Truth-apt and warrant routes: what the artifact produces, and what it does not
One truth-apt object crosses the boundary inward: the thought payload. Whatever warrant it carries is the model's, and the artifact neither preserves nor degrades it, because it never engages with it — no check, no provenance field, no author, timestamp, or session. Content is preserved byte-identically end to end.
The artifact produces truth-apt content in exactly two places, both self-referential: propositions about its own retained state, and diagnostics about a rejected request. Both are entailed derivations with clean warrant inside their domain and none outside it. Even here the warrant has a limit worth naming: the diagnostic "Invalid thought: must be a string" is false for the schema-conforming input thought: "", so the rejection route warrants the fact of rejection but not the stated reason.
Within the boundary the artifact conjectures nothing, tests nothing, accepts nothing, and integrates nothing. No route produces a proposition that does not follow from its inputs. No route evaluates any truth-apt content — the only check-shaped route takes argument shape as its target. Retention is unconditional and therefore cannot be acceptance; with no acceptance there is no post-acceptance integration. Each of these is scoped to the source read in full at this revision, and none of them says anything about the model, which is uninspected.
The one acceptance criterion anywhere in the register is stated in doctrine and held externally: the instruction to set nextThoughtNeeded false only when "truly done and a satisfactory answer is reached". The evaluator is the model; the criterion is its own self-assessed satisfaction, not operationalized further; the accepted scope is undeterminable from inside this boundary. The artifact's role in that decision is to echo the boolean unchanged.
9.7 The governing controls, and the finding that bears on a reviewer
The artifact's strongest control surface is not code — it is text. The tool description is delivered into the model's context with the tool list, and it does two different things there. Its directive half instructs the model in eleven numbered steps. Its assertive half tells the consumer what the tool does.
The assertive half is where doctrine and implementation part. Four assertions in the "Key features" list — generates a hypothesis, verifies it against the chain-of-thought steps, repeats until satisfied, provides a correct answer — have no implemented route. The verification claim fails one stage earlier than a missing evaluator: the schema individuates revisions and branches but has no hypothesis field, so the object said to be verified cannot even be named in the protocol, and the claim could not be implemented against the current interface without a schema change. "Provides a correct answer" is additionally contradicted under the artifact reading: every success response is the same five-field status object with no answer slot.
What makes this decision-relevant rather than documentary is co-location. The same file carries, forty lines apart, a feature list attributing four operations to the tool and a numbered instruction block delegating those same four operations to the model — one-to-one, in the same order. And the hedge moves: the instruction says "Provide a single, ideally correct answer"; the feature list says the tool "Provides a correct answer". The mapping generalizes across six of seven claims. This is not seven independent overclaims; it is one systematic attribution error, in which operations the prompt asks the model to perform are restated as capabilities of the server, and shipped to the model on the same channel.
The artifact's legitimate scope — providing a structured surface plus a thinking discipline delivered as a prompt — is a real and coherent thing to be, and nothing here treats an intentionally operational scope as failure. The mismatch is with the knowledge-production claim layered on top of it.
9.8 Two defects a maintainer would want, recorded without inflation
The README documents the tool as sequential_thinking; the dispatch predicate matches sequentialthinking, so a host wired from the README name is rejected. The server advertises version: "0.2.0" over the protocol while its package declares 0.6.2. Both are implemented findings against inspected source at this revision, and neither has any observed field consequence in this register.
