Boundary and evidence

Evidence basis: source code and shipped instructions frozen at c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c on 2026-09-25; no observed execution or causal experiment. Target class: host integration; boundary kind: complete artifact, partial loop. The selected artifact is the world-model compiler skill with its deterministic validator, scaffold generator and generated contracts. Its host interprets a user task and proposes a design; Python admits a valid design to file generation. The tensor library and scientific research program are context, not a deployed agent loop under review.

The external LLM host owns invocation, model selection, conversation state, tool grants, approvals and isolation. Excluding it prevents claims about deployed autonomy, model identity/fixity, host memory or safe filesystem permissions. Domain data owners supply causal facts; external training and scientific evaluation own empirical model quality. Their exclusion prevents attributing experimental improvements to this compiler. Python is required; JSON paths use the standard library, while YAML additionally requires PyYAML. Only the named repository supplied evidence; linked papers, incumbent analyses and live pages were not consulted.

Shared records

Components

CMP-1 — External host LLM interprets domain requests and proposes the configuration. Representational form: distributed-parametric processing with natural-language guidance. Host identity, version pinning, mutable endpoint resolution and operational parameter changes each have conclusion status: uninspected. The compiler does not select the model. Evidence: SRC-2, jepa-anything-skill/SKILL.md, workflow; external provider internals are excluded.

CMP-2 — Python DesignValidator, generator and templates implement the local checking/emission mechanisms. Form: symbolic; storage: repository files; implementation conclusion status: wired. Evidence: SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py:210-239. The host supplies filesystem capability; these functions do not create a sandbox or an approval system.

Operative objects

OBJ-1 — Task configuration contains source-system identity, context/target lineage, proposed model shape, compiler assumptions, planned experiments and structured claims. Symbolic JSON/YAML with authored natural-language assumptions; source-native product output, not automatically classified as accumulated memory. SRC-2, jepa-anything-skill/references/world-model-conversion.md:1-33; SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py:109-125. Configuration generation is afforded by instructions; consuming/parsing it is wired. Rationale retention is afforded: dimension choices should record their reason; serialization preserves the complete configuration, but template mapping does not read compiler assumptions and no later reason-reading host is established.

These values are capacity proposals, not empirically optimal choices. Record the reason and compute assumption. --- jepa-anything-skill/references/world-model-conversion.md @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

OBJ-2 — Validation report stores error/warning/pass counts and path-specific diagnostics. Symbolic JSON, transient or file-retained on operator request; implementation conclusion status: wired. It establishes declared consistency only. SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/scripts/validate_design.py:1384-1398.

"valid": self.error_count == 0, --- jepa-anything-skill/scripts/validate_design.py @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

OBJ-3 — Generated Python skeleton, normalized configuration, validation report and scaffold manifest are persistent files. Symbolic implementation contracts; implementation conclusion status: wired. They expose model protocols and audit obligations, not a trained model. SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py:158-189; jepa-anything-skill/assets/scaffold/src/jepa_task/model.py.tmpl:1-46.

This module defines observable obligations, not a model implementation or a training loop. --- jepa-anything-skill/assets/scaffold/src/jepa_task/model.py.tmpl @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

Routes

RTE-1 — User request or supplied repository triggers host task interpretation and design proposal. Next-step owner is the host LLM, guided by skill prose; the human supplies otherwise unrecoverable causal facts and retains tool-grant/veto authority in the unspecified host. Proposal guidance requires preserving the task, choosing provisional dimensions and treating design choices as hypotheses. Revision is a local correction loop responding to validator errors, not a shipped optimizer or recursive improvement service. Implementation conclusion status for host execution: afforded. Protocol strength: policy. Inputs and changes persist in OBJ-1; rollback is host/operator-owned. The instruction directs reading diagnostics before retrying; an actual later read is unobserved. Immediate return is the proposal/clarification; delegated visibility, expiry and host activation are uninspected. Selection is the current explicit task, not accumulated-memory selection. SRC-2, jepa-anything-skill/SKILL.md:23-61.

Write the proposed configuration, run the deterministic validator, and correct every design error: --- jepa-anything-skill/SKILL.md @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

Theory guidance on RTE-1: formulation of provisional choices is afforded; operative use in host design is afforded; content-directed criticism of empirical hypotheses is uninspected. Deterministic criticism of declared constraints is wired on RTE-2, but does not criticize the scientific truth of the model choice. Resulting design revision is afforded, while attributable improvement in future capacity is uninspected. Assumptions, dimensions and claim fields are individually inspectable/revisable in OBJ-1; historical reasons are requested in compiler assumptions, with no established recurrent host consumer.

RTE-2 — CLI input OBJ-1 triggers validate_config; symbolic rules accumulate diagnostics and calculate OBJ-2. Next-step owner is deterministic code. The generator's CLI revalidates before calling the renderer; failed designs return code 1 and report, not a generated scaffold. The validator proposes no alternate design. The host may correct and retry; warnings do not veto. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Guarantee strength: invariant for this CLI branch, contingent on unchanged validator/code and filesystem execution. The supplied design is the check target; the code contract is the evaluator, not a supplied answer oracle for world-model quality. Immediate return: report/exit code; persistence: optional report file or generated product; later read-back and delegation: host-owned; selection: current config; expiry: none on this check, rerun required after changes; behavioral effect: admission on BAP-1, with actual operation unobserved. SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py:210-227.

report = validate_config(raw) if not report["valid"]: sys.stdout.write(json.dumps(report, indent=2, ensure_ascii=False) + "\n") return 1 --- jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

RTE-3 — Successful CLI validation admits rendering OBJ-3 into a missing/empty output directory; deterministic template substitution is the proposer/executor and code owns admission. The operator selects destination and requested JSON/YAML format. Existing nonempty destinations are rejected, so this path does not revise an existing artifact in place. Rendering stages in a temporary sibling directory, replaces the destination, and removes staging on exceptions. Implementation conclusion status: wired; guarantee strength: protocol for staged emission, not a crash-proof or concurrent-writer guarantee. All created product files persist; return is generated file list or exception. Recovery is rerun into a new/empty directory after correcting the problem; no durable rollback/version registry is established. Immediate return is file manifest; downstream usage is afforded, read-back/delegated visibility is outside the compiler; selection is supplied config/template names; invalidation is rerun/new destination, not automatic expiry; effect is file creation. SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py:128-192.

raise ScaffoldError(f"Refusing to overwrite non-empty destination: {destination}") --- jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

if destination.exists(): destination.rmdir() temp_path.replace(destination) except Exception: shutil.rmtree(temp_path, ignore_errors=True) raise --- jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

Material alternate: render_scaffold(config, report, ...) is callable directly; its body checks output-format availability and destination but does not call validate_config. Therefore CLI admission is not an enforcement claim about arbitrary Python callers, modified templates, or host shell actions. This is an inspected alternate, not a security vulnerability claim.

RTE-4 — Generated audit function checks a caller-supplied evidence envelope against a planned claim's exact model, metric, split, horizon, mode, experiment, baseline and audit identifiers. Implementation conclusion status: wired in generated template; deployed invocation is uninspected. Target is evidence metadata; symbolic equality checks are evaluator and may raise; no statistical-support decision follows. Proposer and source of actual measurements are external; a host can omit the call. Return is success-by-no-exception or rejection; no persistent admission record, later read-back or delegated visibility is established. Selection uses explicit claim/experiment IDs; this is a requested check, not memory push. Expiry/rollback are inapplicable for a nonpersistent checker; effect is exception control flow. SRC-1, jepa-anything-skill/assets/scaffold/src/jepa_task/evaluation.py.tmpl:37-72.

This stub intentionally does not decide statistical support. It rejects a result measured with a different metric, direction, split, horizon, model, use mode, baseline set, or audit set. --- jepa-anything-skill/assets/scaffold/src/jepa_task/evaluation.py.tmpl @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

Claims

CLM-1 — The compiler delivers validated designs and inspectable no-training skeletons, without claiming empirical model quality. Conclusion status: claimed; RTE-2 and RTE-3 supply bounded wired support. SRC-2, jepa-anything-skill/SKILL.md and docs/architecture.md.

A passing validator proves only that the declared design and evidence plan are internally complete. It does not prove activity, synthesis quality, semantics, model quality, or claim support. --- jepa-anything-skill/SKILL.md @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

Evidenced absences

ABS-1 — Conclusion status: absent. No accumulated agent-memory write/read-back, curation, or automatic trace-learning route was found within the shipped compiler. SRC-1 and SRC-2; specialist inspected the full pinned jepa-anything-skill/ tree and searched memory|history|persist|retriev|cache|learn|previous|feedback|reus, followed by read_text|write_text|open\(|load_config|def main|def validate_config|compiler_assumptions|rationale|reason|history|memory|session|sqlite|pickle|json.load. Positive matches concerned task history/context, planned model learning, static advice, direct configuration/template IO and fixtures. Production read sites load current supplied configs or static templates; writes produce design/report/scaffold products. Template import/callable inventory revealed no later agent-memory consumer. Boundary excludes host conversation/memory, arbitrary user reuse of products and external training; this does not establish those facilities absent.

config_relative = _write_config(config, temp_path, config_format) generated.append(config_relative.as_posix()) report_path = temp_path / "validation-report.json" report_path.write_text(json.dumps(report, indent=2, ensure_ascii=False) + "\n", encoding="utf-8") generated.append("validation-report.json") --- jepa-anything-skill/scripts/generate_scaffold.py @ c6e6c88f3ef75a4ce7acd660d6fa5779d995512c

These writes preserve current-task content; they are not a retrieval index or trace-distillation mechanism. Their interpretation is bounded by the complete IO/search boundary above.

Behavioral-authority paths

BAP-1 — The validation report OBJ-2 is consumed by generator CLI via report["valid"]; enforcing force blocks file generation on validation errors, horizon one invocation. Conclusion status: wired. Epistemic license covers declared contract consistency, not empirical performance. See RTE-2.

BAP-2 — Skill and conversion reference guide the host through natural-language instructions; instructional/advisory force depends on host adoption, horizon the compiler task. Conclusion status: afforded. No deployed activation shown. See RTE-1.

BAP-3 — The evidence checker RTE-4's exception may stop an external caller evaluating a result envelope; enforcing force within that function, horizon one call. Conclusion status: afforded as an integrated downstream control because no consuming runtime was inspected; checker implementation remains wired.

Runtime account

An operator supplies world-model intent and optionally an existing repository. The external host loads the skill, recovers causal facts or requests missing ones, proposes OBJ-1, invokes RTE-2 and corrects errors. Its identity, model call details and approvals remain excluded. The generator CLI repeats validation, then RTE-3 creates OBJ-3. The terminal product is a design/configuration/code skeleton and explanatory mapping. Parameters are not trained by this workflow; generated interfaces are completed later by domain authors. Coordination is ordinary host-to-tool invocation; no multiworker scheduler is established.

Static forcing cases: (1) invalid config takes the diagnostic return before rendering; (2) nonempty destination raises before temporary rendering; (3) direct renderer invocation bypasses CLI revalidation; (4) generated evidence metadata can match while actual scientific support remains unjudged. These cases delimit a consistency checker and artifact generator, not a universal constraint on the host.

No dynamic check planned. Considered executing validator fixtures and scaffold generation, but branch/exception inspection suffices for wiring and boundary conclusions. No benchmark, training, dependency installation or provider call was needed. No execution outcome or causal improvement is asserted.

Operating mode is user-directed task design, with optional bounded structural examples outside the selected runtime route. Human data owners supply source-task facts; the LLM proposes reversible design choices; deterministic code rejects contract errors; the external host/operator chooses revisions and whether to proceed. There is no supplied expected scientific answer in the inspected compiler path. Fixed schema expectations and declared metrics are check criteria, not an outcome oracle.

Lens scoping

Memory/context scope

Trigger: OBJ-1 and OBJ-3 persist files; RTE-1 can inspect supplied repositories and RTE-3 retains reports. Brief lens on the compiler's retained-memory boundary, with host conversation state and training weights excluded. Static references and current-task product output must not be counted as automatic later memory. Specialist input fixed canonical seeds and the full source revision.

Epistemic scope

Trigger: OBJ-1 planned scientific claims, OBJ-2 diagnostics and RTE-4 evidence-envelope checks; full lens on RTE-1, RTE-2, RTE-3 and RTE-4. Exclude subsequent statistical testing and training, which prevents claims of empirical acceptance or improved predictive capacity.

Lens outputs

Memory/context lens

The fresh specialist inventoried task configuration, validation diagnostics, scaffold products and every production read/write site in the compiler skill. OBJ-1, OBJ-2 and OBJ-3 are current-task products; RTE-1's references are static instructions; RTE-2 and RTE-3 consume explicit current-task designs. The source affords supplied-repository inspection, but that does not establish selection of accumulated compiler experience for a later model invocation. ABS-1 records the bounded absence, excluding host memory.

OBJ-1 can retain source-task assumptions and reasons. Configuration serialization preserves them, while template mapping does not consume compiler_assumptions; no later reason-reading route was established. RTE-1 proposes dimension choices and RTE-2 checks constraints, but these are not demonstrated experience distillation. There is no scoped memory selector, budget, trust filter, expiry or curation operation; prediction-field lineage concerns leakage, not recalled-agent-memory trust.

The integrated profile uses one empty accumulated-memory boundary. Trace learning is known no at wired basis from inspected IO and ABS-1, with dependent source/scope/timing/form inapplicable. Remaining memory axes are inapplicable rather than assigning static guidance or product files to memory. No dynamic recall-faithfulness test occurred; the absence of a scoped recall route makes that axis inapplicable. Actual host retention, activation and benefit remain uninspected.

Epistemic lens

  1. Source-and-claim boundary: SRC-1 and SRC-2, compiler/configuration/emission/evidence-envelope routes, CLM-1. External host/model process and empirical experimentation remain unassessed; cannot establish activation, observed claim acceptance or causal benefit.

  2. Object overlay: OBJ-1 combines imported task facts with proposed model choices and planned claims; scientific warrant remains from the user/source and is not conferred by syntax. OBJ-2 records deterministic diagnostics, not empirical outcome. OBJ-3 renders configuration into interfaces; scientific assertions remain planned. Generic identity/form/lineage: see the shared records.

  3. Authority-route ledger:

Route Function Architectural status Target and content relation Evaluator / timing / result Epistemic authority Operational authority and behavioral path Evidence and limit
RTE-1 content transformation doctrine only OBJ-1; acquisition of task facts, proposed design/claim content indeterminate without an instance host LLM guided by references, on task request; candidate design none independently established for scientific choices proposes input; BAP-2 guides host SRC-2 skill workflow; actual host execution unobserved
RTE-2 check/evidence production implemented OBJ-1 to OBJ-2; no change to proposed scientific content symbolic validator, on CLI call; pass/errors/warnings internal declared contract consistency only reports diagnostics; BAP-1 consumes result separately SRC-1 generator/validator; not source truth
RTE-2 operational admission/selection/consumption implemented OBJ-2; no content change valid boolean before rendering no additional warrant CLI continues or returns error through BAP-1 SRC-1 generator; direct renderer alternative excluded from guarantee
RTE-3 content transformation implemented OBJ-1 to OBJ-3; non-ampliative symbolic rendering templates substitute validated fields preserves declared plan, creates no measured evidence constructs files SRC-1 generator; semantic correctness of domain inputs not checked
RTE-3 retention implemented OBJ-3; no content change after rendering missing/empty destination + staged replace retention confers no scientific acceptance emits persistent product SRC-1 generator; no later host consumer shown
RTE-4 check/evidence production implemented evidence envelope for OBJ-1 claims; no content change equality of metadata; on external caller invocation; succeeds/raises compatibility with plan only possible BAP-3 exception; no statistical disposition SRC-1 evaluation template; actual caller uninspected
  1. Lifecycle dispositions: OBJ-1 design conjectures remain indeterminate as truth-apt transformations without a generated instance; a declaration may be a prescription, an imported fact or an empirical hypothesis. Scientific claim status is required to remain planned. No observed candidate instance; observed candidate state: no instance observed. Conjecture architecture is doctrine only; empirical test, empirical acceptance and post-acceptance integration architecture are not determinable inside the excluded training boundary. The code supports contract checking, not completion of those phases. OBJ-2 is derived diagnostic content under symbolic rules; discovery lifecycle not applicable. OBJ-3 is non-ampliative rendering/retention; discovery lifecycle not applicable. A future domain-specific execution and candidate-linked evidence would resolve which scientific claims were tested and accepted.

  2. Claim comparison: CLM-1 has doctrine support in SRC-2 and wired consistency/emission support on RTE-2 and RTE-3. Observed run and causal support are uninspected. No mismatch is established at this boundary; the source explicitly separates planned constraints from empirical support.

  3. Bounded conclusion: task facts are acquired, design proposals are guided, contracts are checked and artifacts are retained. A successful check permits rendering under BAP-1; it does not grant scientific acceptance. The downstream evidence stub compares metadata and leaves statistical judgment external. No knowledge-production or improvement result is established by successful validation alone.

Reconciliation

The memory report's run, source revision, boundary, input hash, method hash, complete status and source anchors were checked. Its sole proposed record MEM-ABS-1 maps to ABS-1; all fourteen profile references were mapped exactly. The proposed extension of OBJ-1 is accepted: reasons are afforded in compiler assumptions and preserved by configuration copying, with no demonstrated later consumer. The report's distinction between prescribed host behavior on RTE-1 and wired code on RTE-2 and RTE-3 is preserved. No unresolved integration issue or substantive conflict remains. This is specialist source analysis, not independent semantic clearance of the full result.

Epistemic overlay reused the canonical objects/routes and added RTE-4 for generated evidence-envelope checking. The generic runtime distinguishes the CLI's enforcement from the directly callable renderer. No evidence status was promoted from wired to observed; the source's scientific-quality disclaimer bounds both runtime and epistemic conclusions.

Bounded synthesis

JEPA-Anything's compiler turns a host model's domain-specific proposal into a machine-checkable plan and inspectable skeleton. Its strongest evidenced contribution is rejection of declared inconsistencies and preservation of an explicit evidence plan before file emission. The host's actual interpretation and revision behavior remains unobserved; empirical capacity improvement from these controls is uninspected.

The skill affords individually inspectable assumptions and content corrections, but no candidate-linked episode establishes conjectural learning. Reflection has conclusion status uninspected: no causally connected self-representation of the compiler's own organization was established. Self-improvement has conclusion status uninspected: revising a user's design is not evidence that the compiler improved its own later capacity. These are separate judgments, each limited to the selected compiler boundary.

For a design handoff, code-backed validation supplies a useful, narrow admission rule. For empirical claims, metadata checks cannot establish activity, model quality or scientific meaning. This assessment would change with a pinned host integration showing actual proposal/revision/read-back and candidate-linked experiments testing the claimed outcomes; a bare passing configuration would not resolve those gaps.

Limitations

Limitation Affected IDs Inspected boundary Conclusion prevented Evidence needed
Host model/runtime excluded CMP-1, RTE-1, BAP-2 compiler skill and local Python invocation details, grants, isolation, model identity/fixity, actual activation pinned host configuration and run traces
Static code only RTE-2, RTE-3, RTE-4 selected implementation observed reliability, concurrency/crash behavior or benefit executed relevant cases with retained outputs
Scientific experiments excluded OBJ-1, OBJ-3, RTE-4 declared design/evidence envelope empirical acceptance, causal improvement, coordinate semantics matched experiments with candidate lineage
Direct Python caller can bypass CLI revalidation RTE-2, RTE-3 inspected renderer system-wide gate invariant narrower public API or independent renderer validation

Verification and blockers

Semantic verification

Checked normal CLI progression, invalid-design return, existing-directory rejection, staged cleanup and direct-renderer alternative. Checked source quotations against pinned files and kept claimed instructions distinct from wired code. Epistemic checks concern declared structure/evidence compatibility; no empirical acceptance or parameter-learning inference follows. Verified the memory scope excludes current-task products, static guidance and host-owned facilities. RTE-1, RTE-2 and RTE-3 contain no qualifying accumulated trace-fed memory write within ABS-1's searched boundary. No compaction or opaque scoped memory branch was found; no push signal is asserted. All dependent trace-learning axes match the known-no route disposition. Profile records map to declared ABS-1 without changing its referent.
