Boundary and evidence

Evidence basis: static implementation and shipped documentation at commit 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572, frozen on 2026-09-26. Intended use: understand what this Slack-centered application controls, how accumulated material returns to later model calls, and what its checking and revision routes warrant.

Company Brain is an enclosing runtime with memory/context integration. The whole-system boundary is its shipped application: Worker ingress, organization Durable Object, Slack turn ownership, model calls, connected-tool and sandbox adapters, schedules, memory integration, research drafts, configuration, and operator surfaces. This is not a whole deployment audit. Slack, Cloudflare Workers/Agents/D1/KV/container internals, model services, external Supermemory, MCP servers, and web providers are dependencies outside the boundary. Their exclusion prevents claims about actual credentials and grant sets, provider weights, server-side extraction/indexing, infrastructure isolation, remote side effects, and deployed reliability. Third-party package implementations were not inspected; local adapters and the QuickJS executor were.

The only evidence allowlist is this repository at the pinned commit. No live linked page, prior review, matrix, audit, or observed production run supplied findings. Operational access root: /home/zby/llm/commonplace/related-systems/supermemoryai--company-brain; all evidence reads used commit-addressed Git blobs, never its worktree. Shipped architecture documentation still mentions Postgres and old monorepo paths; current D1 wiring governs this account. Marketing examples are not run evidence.

Components

CMP-1 — CompanyBrainAgent and Worker. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Hono verifies/routes ingress; an Agents SDK Durable Object named by organization owns turns, fibers and schedules, with SQL state. D1 stores relational application state and BRAIN_KV dedupe/config state. Symbolic code, SQLite/D1 and KV; host execution is external. SRC-1 src/routes/slack/index.ts:835-862, src/brain/turn/agent.ts:88-125, src/db/index.ts:1-48, wrangler.jsonc:47-93.

const instance = drizzle(env.DB, { schema }) --- src/db/index.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

CMP-2 — Hosted language models used for main turns, triage, extraction, research and effect classification. Invocation and configurable identity conclusion status: wired. Main profile defaults to grok-4.5, triage to claude-haiku-4.5, with configurable model/effort and provider-key fallback; actual deployment may resolve to a different configured provider. These are provider model identifiers, not inspected weight hashes. Exact parameter fixity and changes inside providers: uninspected. Local model selection does not establish online weight training. Distributed-parametric computations are accessed through inference APIs; text prompts and schemas are local. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/model-profile.ts:25-34,76-136, src/brain/turn/brain-model.ts:20-25,60-76,133-148, src/brain/tools/mcp/approval-classifier.ts:162-181. The small classification/summarization helper also routes through getBrainModel(TRIAGE_MODEL); entity resolution additionally uses xAI provider-native web search when available. SRC-1 src/config/index.ts:40-50, src/brain/memory/entities.ts:106-140. All later memory transformations using these calls inherit the same parameter/identity limit.

CMP-3 — External Supermemory service. Client integration conclusion status: wired; internal storage, extraction, embeddings, model identities and parameter changes conclusion status: uninspected. Its opaque implementation cannot be replaced analytically by the local document/profile API names. Memory records below locate the inspected adapter boundary. Accepted local parameters dreaming, preserveBrainTags and isFullReplace are not forwarded in documents.add; their presence at call sites does not establish instant extraction or replacement semantics. SRC-1 src/compat/routes/memories/handler-effect.ts:11-29,77-92.

CMP-4 — QuickJSExecutor. Implementation conclusion status: wired. JavaScript runs in a WASM QuickJS context with injected connector functions, JSON crossings, a 64 MiB memory cap, stack cap and interrupt/overall time budgets. This is an embedded returning computation in CMP-1, not a separately delegated agent. SRC-1 src/brain/codemode/quickjs-executor.ts:17-24,71-90,142-175.

runtime.setMemoryLimit(MEMORY_LIMIT_BYTES) runtime.setMaxStackSize(MAX_STACK_BYTES) --- src/brain/codemode/quickjs-executor.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

CMP-5 — Optional Cloudflare container or Daytona sandbox adapter. Implementation conclusion status: wired; deployed availability and infrastructure isolation conclusion status: uninspected. Shell commands, files and artifacts live in a scoped remote workspace. Container support ships disabled unless configured; Daytona is a separate keyed alternative. SRC-1 wrangler.jsonc:31-36,95-110, src/brain/tools/sandbox/tools.ts:73-166, src/brain/tools/sandbox/cloudflare-client.ts:18-107, src/brain/tools/sandbox/daytona-client.ts:24-35.

Operative objects

OBJ-1 — Slack request and TurnState: user text, thread history, actor identity, budgets, updates and current tool-call records. Natural-language content in symbolic message/state structures; current-run memory plus Durable Object recovery state. Consumed by RTE-1 and RTE-2. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/slack/turn.ts:2625-2640,2868-2904, src/brain/turn/loop.ts:107-162.

OBJ-2 — Terminal reply proposal and selected Slack answer. Natural-language answer plus symbolic answered/blocked/nothing_found marker; proposed by model and published by runtime. Truth-apt claims depend on the question; the marker is operational status, not proof. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/terminal.ts:3-17,74-94, src/brain/turn/finalization/output.ts:30-64.

OBJ-3 — Connected-app program, discovered contracts, native results and call ledger. Generated JavaScript and structured schemas/results; remote content may be truth-apt or arbitrary payload. Program and ledger support current execution, replay and continuation; later retained derivatives are distinct memory records. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/tools/mcp/execute.ts:454-545,599-618, src/brain/tools/mcp/connector.ts:63-157.

OBJ-4 — Pending action and approval state: proposed operation, args, asker, workspace, expiry and continuation. Symbolic Durable Object state with explanatory text. Approval authorizes a side effect, not the answer's truth. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/compute.ts:726-810, src/brain/slack/turn.ts:654-713,2918-2974.

OBJ-5 — Sandbox session and files/artifacts: symbolic session record plus arbitrary filesystem content. Scoped reuse may outlast a model turn, but actual remote file durability is service-dependent; container sleep can destroy it. No blanket representational classification of arbitrary files. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/tools/sandbox/tools.ts:106-166,198-209, src/brain/tools/sandbox/cloudflare-client.ts:18-43.

OBJ-6 — Scheduled task/automation definition: prompt, creator, delivery target, cron and access settings. Retained operational instruction, distinct from discovered company facts. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/tools/automations.ts:220-250, src/brain/tools/scheduling.ts:305-430.

OBJ-11 — Knowledge documents and returned memories

Implementation conclusion status: wired. Application-native MemoryDoc contains title, content, source links, optional event date and canonical tags. Supermemory stores documents and returns readable memory strings plus IDs, metadata, source document IDs, buckets, source counts and timestamps. Documents and derived entries are distinct; the local API exposes lineage but does not expose the derivation algorithm. Content is natural language; identifiers, tags, bucket memberships, dates and liveness flags are symbolic access metadata. Store: external service objects. Actual consumers: turn models, research planners, profile assembly and memory navigation. Authority: knowledge, with preferences sometimes used as bounded behavioral guidance. SRC-1 src/brain/memory/writeback.ts:30-58,142-219; src/memory/memories.ts:4-40,59-62,114-164,171-208.

OBJ-12 — Topic/tag registry and profile access metadata

Implementation conclusion status: wired. SQLite tag/node mappings associate container, document and normalized topic path; remote metadata carries the same tags. Automatic split generates child paths/descriptions and repoints remote metadata before local mappings. These structures route later read operations and the ambient topic outline. They are not themselves a graph database or a claim-validation system. Scope identity constrains access. SRC-1 src/brain/memory/tree.ts:140-210,347-402,429-505,598-638; src/brain/memory/split.ts:21-41,57-168; src/brain/memory/read-scope.ts:12-31.

OBJ-13 — Learned interaction profile and carried observer notes

Implementation conclusion status: wired. The agent-self service container holds derived text classified into style buckets; SQLite brain_observe_cursor retains thread cursor and carried notes. The observer concatenates prior notes with new human-labeled thread evidence; later turn assembly reads the service profile. The carried note conditions later extraction (learning authority); the profile shapes voice as bounded guidance, not permissions. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/interaction-observe.ts:25-43,79-127,211-281; src/brain/memory/interaction-style.ts:14-58,70-82; src/brain/prompt/build.ts:186-193.

OBJ-14 — Mutable skills, draft adoption and usage metadata

Implementation conclusion status: wired. SQLite brain_skill stores Markdown body, routing description, personal/org scope, creator, source thread, version/status, load count and load time. brain_skill_draft stores pending generated candidates; these are not active skills. The operative body is natural-language instruction; symbolic visibility and version fields are enforced. System skills are excluded because their content is static. SRC-1 src/brain/skills/store.ts:181-229,311-349,392-469,473-555; src/brain/skills/slack-interactions.ts:108-126,160-200.

OBJ-15 — Editable workspace prompt

Implementation conclusion status: wired. One SQLite text row per organization retains admin-authored guidance. It is automatically read at turn assembly and placed in runtime context above learned style and memory but below fixed policies and the explicit current request. The label “untrusted data” does not eliminate the behavioral authority the same wrapper grants it. SRC-1 src/brain/memory/workspace-prompt.ts:4-43; src/routes/workspace-prompt.ts:14-36; src/brain/prompt/build.ts:195-205.

OBJ-16 — Persisted compacted approval conversation

Implementation conclusion status: wired. A suspended approval retains state_json containing transformed model messages, request, actor/scope, tool assembly and turn state. Old tool outputs become structured heads, argument excerpts and digests; skill bodies become reload markers. This is an operative derivative, not merely a display summary. SQLite persistence connects it to a later resumed model call. No opaque provider compaction token or learned parameter is involved. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/approval.ts:26-44,90-112,160-178,192-218; src/brain/turn/context.ts:515-590; src/brain/turn/compute.ts:794-818; src/brain/turn/resume.ts:330-363,430-454.

OBJ-17 — Reusable thread investigation

Implementation conclusion status: wired. SQLite stores a JSON checkpoint keyed by thread and principal. It contains prior goal, discovered method names, a previous answer/evidence excerpt, bounded literal connected-app input/output trajectory and expiry. Code calls a previous answer “verifiedEvidence” if any native call succeeded; this is not verification of every proposition in that answer. The consumer receives it as untrusted informational context and is told to recheck time-sensitive claims. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/thread-investigation.ts:9-20,161-183,185-242,245-312; src/brain/turn/context.ts:210-285.

OBJ-18 — Earned research watch targets. Local SQLite kind/label/last-sent timestamps rank future research attention; successful reviewed sends promote targets, and recency decay plus pruning bounds retention. Draft body/status/source history remains OBJ-9, so this record does not duplicate it. Symbolic access/ranking material. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/watchlist.ts:13-35,56-125, src/brain/auto-research/send.ts:112-120.

OBJ-19 — Entity resolution cache. External service documents retain generated canonical names/domains/aliases in metadata, with textual content and symbolic lookup fields. Later resolve_entity requests reuse exact normalized matches before web resolution. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Source reliability and flattened array round-trip behavior uninspected. SRC-1 src/brain/memory/entities.ts:74-218, src/brain/turn/tools.ts:323-348.

OBJ-20 — Special company_context document. Service-object text with a conditional wired reader and an exported write helper. Writer capability conclusion status: afforded; internal automatic population conclusion status: uninspected. The specialist found only definition/export in its source search, so no standalone setup producer is inferred. This is distinct from OBJ-7's tagged research summaries. SRC-1 src/brain/memory/company-context.ts:18-97, src/brain/index.ts:2.

OBJ-7 — Onboarding company research summary, URLs and highlights. Natural-language summary plus symbolic structured fields, produced from web snippets/homepage and stored through the external memory adapter and local research state. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Actual preservation versus unsupported inference: uninspected without input/output instances. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/research.ts.

OBJ-8 — Proactive ResearchPlan focus and target/person angles. Natural language and symbolic selection fields produced from company/profile context, roster, prior drafts and operator steering. The focus/relevance assertions may be truth-apt; choice of what to investigate is a policy decision. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/plan.ts.

OBJ-9 — Proactive research draft body, sources, flags and trace ID. Natural-language candidate in local SQL with structured provenance/review metadata; produced by a read-only ephemeral computeTurn and subsequently reviewed/refined/sent. Implementation conclusion status: wired. URL/tool evidence records do not prove every claim. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/draft.ts, src/brain/auto-research/store.ts, src/brain/admin/chat.ts.

OBJ-10 — Sent-draft engagement outcomes. Imported Slack reactions/replies with engagementKnown and repliesTruncated flags, consumed by operator inspection. Structured/natural-language content, bounded to fetched thread and clipped replies; not a quality oracle. Implementation conclusion status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/outcome.ts, src/brain/admin/chat.ts.

Routes

RTE-1 — Slack ingress, ownership and recovery. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: signed Slack event; principal: Slack identity resolved to workspace and organization member. Worker verifies signature, performs best-effort KV dedupe, then dispatches explicit, chime or context-only events to the org agent. Explicit turns enter a fiber with an idempotency key; runtime stores a recovery snapshot and owns next-step scheduling. Natural-language policy enters later at triage/model calls. Return: HTTP acknowledgement precedes background completion; effects include Slack replies and later memory writes. Recovery resumes once or finalizes a captured terminal proposal; a saved reply/approval message ends recovery. No exactly-once external-effect guarantee follows from this mechanism. Source: SRC-1 src/routes/slack/index.ts:556-558,648-677,817-862, src/brain/turn/agent.ts:100-125,134-253.

RTE-2 — Main model loop and finalization. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: accepted interactive, passive, scheduled or admin invocation. Caller supplies actor, question, history and surface; computeTurn assembles granted tools, company/profile/style/skills/workspace context, and restores a principal-bound investigation checkpoint where permitted. Model chooses next tools under shipped natural-language instructions; runtime supplies turn state each step, tool budget, abort/suspension and terminal selection. Defaults are 60 initial steps, 30 approval continuation, 12 live-update steps. Runtime can disable regular tools at wrap-up while retaining protocol tools. Immediate result is completed reply, suspended approval or failure; live updates can rebase the request. Memory/continuation retention is specified on integrated routes below. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/turn/compute.ts:239-295,382-445,561-585,726-810,888-920, src/brain/turn/loop.ts:27-38,107-175, src/brain/turn/model-profile.ts:32-34.

Admission of OBJ-2 on RTE-2 selects a sanitized terminal reply, model text, or longest publishable response draft. The model proposes and self-checks; the deterministic selector may reject malformed output, but does not compare the truth of claims with an answer oracle. No observed reply instance or activation effect was supplied. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/turn/finalization/output.ts:30-64.

/* Selects reply content without invoking another model or judging semantics. / --- src/brain/turn/finalization/output.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

RTE-3 — Connected-app Code Mode. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: main model discovers methods and submits JavaScript. Host selects actor-visible connections/leases, opens catalogs, rejects undiscovered/dynamic paths and invalid arguments, checks call budgets, and executes via CMP-4. Each native call's effect is classified by explicit router contract, trusted annotation, verb map, or bounded LLM fallback; read/metadata is allowed, other effects pause, and read-only callers are denied those effects. Unknown classification, timeout or exhausted classifier budget reaches the pause/deny policy. The classification's semantic reliability is best effort, even though policy branching is deterministic. Lease validity is checked again before execution. Remote services own actual effects and provider permissions. Results return through JSON and bounded summaries; ledger/checkpoints support recovery, not universal idempotency. Proposal guidance: current user request, discovered contracts, static tool policy and model instructions. Generated code is a current-task proposed procedure, with schema/error-directed repair afforded; no observed content-criticism/retest sequence or improved capacity is established. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/turn/tools.ts:743-808, src/brain/tools/mcp/execute.ts:454-545, src/brain/tools/mcp/policy.ts:85-186, src/brain/tools/mcp/connector.ts:374-432,516-530, src/brain/tools/mcp/approval-classifier.ts:128-205.

if (operationIsRead(args.effect)) { return { decision: "allow", effect: args.effect } } if (args.readOnly) { return { decision: "deny", effect: args.effect, reason: ${args.toolIdentity} may change external state, but this connected-app access is read-only., } } return { decision: "pause", --- src/brain/tools/mcp/policy.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

RTE-4 — Direct MCP fallback. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: Code Mode unavailable or no apps opened; host installs search/describe/execute meta-tools over actor-visible servers. Read-only and org-shared callers require positively classified read operations. Personal callers' approval predicate instead checks destructiveHint and a finite write-verb list; unknown nonmatching names are not automatically approval-required. This materially differs from RTE-3's unknown-effect handling. Model requests a tool, SDK approval protocol controls gated calls, provider executes and returns output; read calls alone are marked retryable on timeout. External tool semantics are not locally verified. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/turn/tools.ts:801-853, src/brain/tools/mcp/runtime-tools.ts:82-94,325-438, src/brain/tools/mcp/tool-policy.ts:103-140.

RTE-5 — Human decision and resumed action. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: OBJ-4 presented in Slack. Runtime checks workspace, original asker, pending status, expiry and current turn; a newer instruction cancels the pending action. Human approves or denies; runtime revalidates membership/workspace and resumes stored context. Approvals expire after 15 minutes. Immediate result is rejected/expired/cancelled state or resumed execution and reply. Admission is an operational protocol under Slack identity and external service contracts, not epistemic acceptance. No general rollback of a completed remote side effect is established. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/slack/turn.ts:654-826,2918-2974.

if (approval.askerUser !== decision.userId) { await replyEphemeral( decision, Only <@${approval.askerUser}> can approve or deny this action., ) return } --- src/brain/slack/turn.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

RTE-6 — Remote shell and artifact route. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: sandbox_start/run/read/artifact tool request. Runtime keys the session by org/user/thread or turn, validates URL/path/timeout and reuses only matching live repo sessions. Both remote clients apply a finite command-pattern denylist before shell execution. Commands can change sandbox files; an interactive Slack artifact destination permits direct upload with current-turn fencing. The shell tool has a separate effect boundary from MCP approval. No claim that arbitrary shell commands are side-effect-free follows from regex guards or the readOnly actor flag. Invalid input returns error; stale/sleeping session recreates workspace, so the session row is not a file-durability guarantee. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/tools/sandbox/tools.ts:73-210, src/brain/tools/sandbox/guards.ts:9-45,174-189, src/brain/tools/sandbox/cloudflare-client.ts:18-107, src/brain/turn/tools.ts:432-464.

RTE-7 — Scheduled work and operator inspection. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: persisted alarm or operator call. Scheduling reloads workspace and cancels on org mismatch; actor and access mode are reconstructed from payload. Channel automations use org-shared read-only access; DM automations permit personal fallback; plain reminders retain their payload's separate mode. Runtime frames the prompt, calls RTE-2 and posts the result automatically. This read-only designation concerns app actions; the scheduled Slack post is an intended effect. Admin chat uses selected surfaces, read-only actor, scheduledRun and ephemeral invocation, returning a proposed answer/refinement without writing thread checkpoints. Research draft mode is separate in the epistemic records. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/tools/automations.ts:220-250, src/brain/tools/scheduling.ts:305-460, src/brain/admin/chat.ts:180-210,267-316.

RTE-8 — Configuration and capability admission. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: authorized operator settings or interactive tool request. Admin-only configuration checks admit model/effort, proactivity, company domain and workspace prompt changes; latter instructions and skill changes are covered by memory records. Connection inventory and approved temporary leases determine available app methods; lease execution revalidates expiry/revocation. Human account/provider grants remain external. The proposed change comes from operator intent or a model interpreting that intent, with role/schema checks and explicit clear/replacement settings; this is configuration revision, not evidence of self-directed production-code improvement. Deployed code changes are outside the inspected operational route. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/configuration.ts:303-318,378-455, src/brain/lease/policy.ts:76-126, src/brain/tools/mcp/connector.ts:516-525, src/brain/turn/tools.ts:390-402,730-760.

RTE-15 — Knowledge acquisition and later recall

Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger/producer: the active turn model chooses save_memory near completion, or scheduled channel observation distills new Slack messages. The turn tool only sets capture.memory and returns saved: true; the durable write happens later in the Slack/API wrapper. Channel observation keeps clusters in SQLite before submission and retries failed writes. Persistence: OBJ-11 service documents, plus OBJ-12 mappings. Later consumers: the ambient and requested readers in RTE-16. The conversation-to-note transformation is automatic trace learning; channel-wide and organization/personal retention support cross-task use. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/capture-tools.ts:34-54; src/brain/slack/turn.ts:984-1006,3308-3325; src/brain/turn/agent.impl.ts:632-647; src/brain/slack/channel-observe.ts:32-63,958-1054; src/brain/memory/index.ts:51-123,153-198.

The producer asks to retain rationale, but the source service can transform the submitted document and normal recall returns derived strings. Thus retention of a reason is requested, not guaranteed through the full later route. Minimal producer evidence:

Group the durable content into the fewest TAG-COHERENT clusters that remain independently retrievable. Each cluster covers ONE coherent subject sharing one tag set (a topic-tree path and/or its primary people). Keep related decisions, rationale, owners, and implications together even when several people are involved. Split only genuinely independent subjects, not supporting facts that merely add another person or possible tag. Keep the original wording and any dates — do NOT pre-atomize into single facts, and do NOT dump raw chatter. Prioritize durable CHANGES (ownership, responsibility, roles, decisions) and keep their dates in the text so the extractor can resolve recency. Retain explicit human commitments, blockers, and meaningful status changes with the capture policy's decay rules; exclude raw activity, live counts, and app-derived status snapshots. Skip pure chatter; if nothing durable, return an empty list.

For each cluster: content = the curated relevant material (faithful, dates preserved); tags = the fewest coherent topic-tree paths ('/'-nested, reuse exact existing paths rather than creating near-duplicates) + person_ only for primary people. Leave eventDate unset — dates stay in the content for the extractor to assign per fact.---src/brain/slack/channel-observe.ts@0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572`

RTE-16 — Scoped automatic profile delivery and requested knowledge reads

Implementation conclusion status: wired. At each turn, assembly selects shared and scope-specific containers; DMs additionally include private channels known accessible to the asker. Explicit admin surface override replaces the set, including an empty set. Ambient push selects asker/mentioned-person/channel tags by identifier, adds broadly selected shared memories and the topic outline, and renders them into runtime context. Requested pull uses recall_tagged_memories, outline_memory_tree, read_memory_node (250 memories per page), or search_company_brain. Search fans out in batches of six, requests hybrid search with 40 results per container, then sorts/deduplicates returned IDs into 40 total. Remote search internals are unknown. RTE-17 — Public-thread style reflection

Implementation conclusion status: wired. Successful Slack turns arm a later reflection. The worker excludes DMs, missing/rebound workspaces and channels not established as public; reads up to 80 thread messages after its cursor; labels humans versus bots; limits bodies to 2,000 encoded characters and a 6,000-character prompt batch; and asks a fast model for one or two generalized style sentences or empty output. Empty/non-note output is rejected; successful service submission advances the cursor and carries the last eight lines, capped at 1,200 characters. The next reflection consumes that carried text; later turns load up to 80 live agent-self memories and select asker-specific or unscoped bucketed entries. This is offline cross-task style learning. It does not retain direct human quotation or source thread in the submitted metadata, so no later reason-reading guarantee exists. SRC-1 src/brain/slack/turn.ts:1012-1018; src/brain/turn/post-turn-reflect.ts:550-568; src/brain/turn/interaction-observe.ts:25-43,129-225,230-290; src/brain/memory/interaction-style.ts:23-58.

The observer is instructed to use human evidence, rather than independently testing it:

Speaker labels are evidence boundaries. Each message body is a JSON string. Learn only from HUMAN lines. AGENT_OR_BOT lines show what the agent or another bot said; they are context, never evidence of what the team wants. Do not learn the agent's own patterns from itself, even when they recur across messages or resemble a coherent style. The agent using or repeating slang, humor, formatting, phrasing, or a collaboration habit does not make it a team preference. An AGENT_OR_BOT line matters only when a HUMAN line explicitly approves, rejects, corrects, or requests that behavior.

Before writing a note, verify that every claimed preference has direct HUMAN evidence in these messages. If the evidence exists only in AGENT_OR_BOT text, output nothing. For example, if only the agent says "no cap," do not infer that the team wants slang. If a human says "I like when you say no cap," you may generalize that explicit reaction into a durable style preference.

RTE-18 — Generated playbook adoption, editing and later loading

Implementation conclusion status: wired. On an explicit request to save a repeatable procedure or how completed work was done, the turn model drafts a Markdown skill. It persists a pending draft and privately asks the creator to approve or choose scope. Creator identity is verified; whole-organization scope needs an admin. Approved input creates an active skill. Users/admins can also create/edit/delete skills through settings-backed operations, with scope permissions and version conflict checks. Subsequent model turns receive a visible-skill index; exact-name load_skill returns the body and updates usage time. Four distinct skill loads per turn are allowed. Approval-resume strips old bodies to require fresh loading. SRC-1 src/brain/skills/tools.ts:33-34,55-120,137-196,225-232; src/brain/skills/slack-interactions.ts:108-126,160-200; src/brain/skills/store.ts:392-469,492-555; src/brain/skills/context.ts:6-17,49-85,109-121.

Generated skill creation is staged cross-task trace learning when it captures completed work; manually authored skills are not automatic trace learning. A source-thread URL survives in storage, but load_skill returns only name/body/version. No structured rationale is required, and the later route does not read the source-thread rationale. If the body contains a reason, it is delivered incidentally. Tool authority is explicit:

const load_skill = deps.tool({ description: "Load one visible organization playbook by its exact name when it matches the task. RTE-19 — Admin workspace guidance

Implementation conclusion status: wired. An authenticated organization admin PUT writes OBJ-15; every new main turn retrieves it. Empty input clears it and length normalization bounds it. This is manual cross-turn instruction, not trace learning. It can change source/tool selection and workflow as well as style; enforcement comes from the edit permission, while the guidance itself remains model-interpreted. No dedicated rationale field or diagnostic consumer exists. SRC-1 src/routes/workspace-prompt.ts:23-36; src/brain/memory/workspace-prompt.ts:4-43; src/brain/turn/compute.ts:432-453.

RTE-20 — Approval-boundary compaction and resumed consumption

Implementation conclusion status: wired. The compactor removes injected turn-state messages; preserves active method discovery; keeps six recent tool results, bounding large ones at 16,000 characters; reduces older results to 400-character heads, short argument summaries, original length and digest; and changes loaded skills into name/version/reload markers. Suspension serializes the transformed conversation into the approval row. The approved/denied continuation reuses those messages in a later model call. In-memory live-update compaction uses the same function but is excluded where no durable checkpoint is written. The durable branch is online, per-task, automatic trace-fed consolidation, with symbolic and textual output. It retains provenance handles and partial literal evidence, not a reasoned causal explanation of why earlier actions worked. RTE-21 — Thread investigation extraction and reuse

Implementation conclusion status: wired. At completion of non-ephemeral, non-passive connected-app work, code automatically builds and stores OBJ-17. It derives a goal from the request, compacts the answer, selects discovered methods and recent literal trajectories, and expires the record after six idle hours. A later turn loads by both thread key and principal key; rendering caps total context at 48,000 characters, method context at 8,000 and trajectory context at 32,000. Thus this is online trace learning with actual retained-to-later-model wiring, although the thread is not a task-horizon classifier. Source-native “verified evidence” is just answer text gated by at least one successful native call. It can preserve a reason in an answer/output excerpt but supplies no separate rationale test or guaranteed causal explanation. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/thread-investigation.ts:9-20,161-183,215-274,277-312; src/brain/turn/compute.ts:239-247,964-977; src/brain/turn/context.ts:210-285.

RTE-22 — Research history, watch promotion and outcome-assisted administration

Implementation conclusion status: wired. An operator-started research round reads up to 20 sent bodies and 20 pending bodies and includes shortened versions in the planning and drafting prompts to avoid repeats. Result drafts survive restart in SQLite. Explicit reviewed send changes status to sent; eligible sent targets gain/refresh a watch slot. At future unsteered rounds, recency-ranked watch targets fill remaining planned slots; a 14-day half-life and top-20 pruning govern retention. A watch record keeps only kind, label and timestamps, so the original reason it deserved attention is not retained in that record. The generated revisit angle is merely “something new since last mentioned”; the planner separately receives shortened prior bodies, which may preserve some substantive reason. This route supports ranking/routing and cross-task learning from delivered-work events; it does not update a learned quality model from reactions. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/run.ts:278-285,298-334,391-403; src/brain/auto-research/plan.ts:138-164; src/brain/auto-research/draft.ts:72-96; src/brain/auto-research/send.ts:112-120; src/brain/auto-research/watchlist.ts:64-125.

For admin chat, the automatic selector uses the operator's selected shared/person surfaces to load recent sent records, fetch current reactions/replies and inject the result into the next computeTurn. It explicitly represents failed Slack reads as unknown. This is a later consumer of retained delivery coordinates and content, even though a source comment says sent posts “are not memories.” Reactions themselves are imported live and not durably distilled here. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/outcome.ts:30-71,89-99; src/brain/admin/chat.ts:72-98,250-280.

RTE-23 — Entity resolution cache

Implementation conclusion status: wired. The model requests resolve_entity before app lookup. The resolver first searches up to 100 current-generation shared entity documents by metadata and exact normalized canonical/domain/alias or domain-stem match; on a miss it uses a web-capable model to generate JSON. Non-read-only turns persist the canonical entity/aliases and later requests reuse them. The consumer is the named turn tool; this is wired pull, not an API with only a hypothetical caller. Derived structured identifiers can steer subsequent tool targeting. It retains no supporting sources or explanatory reason in the entity metadata; fact reliability and array metadata round-tripping through comma flattening are not tested here. SRC-1 src/brain/memory/entities.ts:66-139,142-218; src/brain/turn/tools.ts:323-348.

const resetEpoch = getBrainMemoryResetEpoch(agent) try { const known = await findEntity(env, org.id, ref, resetEpoch) // A reset may have advanced the epoch mid-query; don't serve a stale entity. if (!isBrainMemoryResetEpochCurrent(agent, resetEpoch)) return null if (known) return known const web = await resolveViaWeb(env, ref, costLedger) if (!web) return null if (persist) { await writeEntity(env, org, userId, web, agent, resetEpoch).catch((err) => captureException(err instanceof Error ? err : new Error(String(err)), { --- src/brain/memory/entities.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

RTE-24 — Retained-memory maintenance and withdrawal

Implementation conclusion status: wired. Automatic tag splitting acts on at least 125 live mapped documents, samples at most 160, asks for two to four coherent children, updates service metadata first and then repoints local nodes. This evolves access structure; it does not merge memory claims. Requested forgetting previews semantic candidates, then an approved apply forwards exact IDs within a resolved scope to the service's forget API. Local reads filter isLatest === false, forgotten flags and expired forgetAfter. Skills can be edited/deleted; workspace guidance can be cleared; checkpoints expire; reset generations and stale-write cleanup prevent old jobs repopulating new memory. RTE-9 — Onboarding research acquisition, transformation and retention. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: setup/company research request. Runtime collects six search results and optional homepage excerpt when the configured provider is available; fast model summarizes under source-only/NO_INFO instructions, then extracts schema-shaped highlights. Nonempty non-NO_INFO summary and current generation epoch permit memory write and process-state completion. Imported source warrant remains unknown; the model's summary may preserve or extend content. Return is summary/card/state; later research brief/memory consumption is wired through the memory account. Program can reject empty/stale output; there is no supplied expected-answer oracle or evidenced automatic truth test. Guidance is shipped summary instruction, not a learned research method. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/turn/research.ts.

const clean = result.text.trim() if (!clean || clean.includes(NO_INFO)) return null --- src/brain/turn/research.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

Memory amendment to RTE-9: the initial account identified summary persistence without its stable topic tags, reset-epoch checks, or replacement-failure cleanup. The specialist adds those supported fields; no identity or status changes. A scheduled company research task uses a homepage excerpt and up to six web results per aspect, asks a fast model for a short grounded summary, rejects no-information output, retains source URLs and writes it under stable company/<aspect> tags through RTE-15. Later RTE-16 and planning readers consume those findings. A changed domain can retire stale aspect documents when replacement fails; reset epochs prevent superseded jobs from retaining stale output. This is automatic external evidence/tool-trace transformation, outside the interaction that triggered it, with cross-task knowledge use. Summary/source fields can preserve support, but no reason-preservation guarantee or observed groundedness result follows from the prompt. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/research.ts:175-212,615-744.

RTE-13 — Engagement inspection and operator feedback. Implementation conclusion status: wired. Trigger: inspection of sent drafts; Slack reads acquire reactions/replies with error/truncation indicators. Admin chat automatically assembles recent scoped outcomes for questions about how posts landed; refinement skips this assembly and uses direct operator instruction. RTE-14 — Model-directed answer evidence check. Implementation conclusion status: wired for instruction delivery; semantic compliance conclusion status: uninspected. Before final reply, shipped prompt directs the producing model to trace claims to seen records, label inference and qualify absence coverage, then fix unsupported answers. This is an actual checking instruction with advisory force, distinct from RTE-2's deterministic output admission. No independent answer oracle or observed checked instance was supplied. Source: SRC-1 src/brain/prompt/system.ts.

Before sending, check the answer against the evidence: every claim traces to a record you actually saw or is labeled as inference, and an absence claim states what was covered. If the check fails, fix the answer, not the phrasing. --- src/brain/prompt/system.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

Epistemic annotation to RTE-24: supplied human criticism can target either a stored fact or learned behavior. The shipped procedure instructs semantic preview, exact approved deletion and, for a factual correction, save of the replacement. The human proposes criticism and can veto destructive apply; the model identifies the target and proposed successor. This affords content-directed revision and later read-back, not proof of a correct replacement or an observed theory-building episode. Supporting doctrine (SRC-1 src/brain/prompt/system.ts):

When someone tells you that something you said, know, or keep doing is wrong, outdated, or not how they work, treat it as a correction to make at the source, not just something to agree with in the reply — otherwise you repeat it tomorrow. --- src/brain/prompt/system.ts @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

Opaque service isolation, admin surfaces, fallback classifiers and shell effects prevent upgrading the language to a universal deployment guarantee.

Memory isn't one big bucket. It's a permissions graph, and the brain only ever reads with the asker's own access. --- README.md @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

CLM-3 — Skills teach processes, formats and voice. Claim conclusion status: claimed. SRC-2 README.md:54. Editable instructions and style retention/read-back support a concrete adaptation path; an improvement attributable to criticism requires further evidence.

| 🎓 Learns your way | Skills teach it your processes, formats and voice. A workspace prompt sets how it behaves everywhere. | --- README.md @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

CLM-4 — Source-grounded answer and targeted correction doctrine. Claim conclusion status: claimed. RTE-14 delivers a checking instruction; integrated correction routes permit removal/replacement of wrong stored content. Compliance and truth remain unobserved. SRC-1 src/brain/prompt/system.ts; retained quotes are on the corresponding routes.

CLM-5 — Research modes. Claim conclusion status: claimed. Dedicated long-running research is explicitly not shipped; onboarding research and bounded proactive drafts are separate implemented routes. SRC-2 docs/guide/use-cases/long-horizon-research.md.

Not yet. This page shows the experience the hosted product was building toward. There's no dedicated long-running research mode in this build; a single turn does its best with the sources it can reach. --- docs/guide/use-cases/long-horizon-research.md @ 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572

Evidenced absences

No system-wide absence claim is made. Uninspected provider internals, model reasoning and unobserved operations are limitations, not evidenced absences. Any specialist bounded absences adopted below retain their explicit search boundary.

ABS-1 — No retained test of recalled-content dependence

Conclusion status: absent. Within the source-only commission and inspected memory/skills/context/research code plus repository test inventory, no retained execution result establishes that an answer depends faithfully on recalled memory, or that changing/removing a memory predictably changes output. This is an absence of admissible operational evidence, not a claim that no private deployment test exists. SRC-1 repository tree at the reviewed commit and the implementation anchors above; SRC-2 README claims supply no experiment. Test definitions or guard code would not meet the observed-evidence threshold anyway.

Reproducible bounded absence check (SRC-1 and SRC-2): search root /home/zby/llm/commonplace/related-systems/supermemoryai--company-brain; exact revision 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572. Enumerate the complete tracked tree with git --no-replace-objects -C related-systems/supermemoryai--company-brain ls-tree -r --name-only 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572. Then search the documentation, implementation and test roots with:

git --no-replace-objects -C related-systems/supermemoryai--company-brain grep -n -i -E 'faithful|faithfulness|ablation|counterfactual|recall.{0,40}(test|eval|experiment)|memory.{0,40}(benchmark|eval|experiment)|retained.{0,40}(execution|result)' 0071d6164991ce5dccddbd645bcac631ee477572 -- README.md docs src test

Result: exactly three matching lines: src/brain/slack/channel-observe.ts:63 is a prompt asking for faithful curation; src/brain/tools/mcp/execute.ts:80,325 configures a maximum of 50 retained code-mode executions. Commit-addressed follow-up reads of src/brain/tools/mcp/execute.ts:73-81,314-328 establish a runtime retention limit, not a recorded test result. The full tree inventory contains test source files but no retained evaluation-result dataset or run artifact identifiable as testing recalled-content dependence. The illustrated scenario in SRC-2 docs/guide/use-cases/knowledge-recall.md:5-26 describes live Notion lookup, not an execution experiment on recalled memory. Together with the named route inspection, this establishes only the bounded absence of admissible retained dependence-testing evidence in the commissioned source snapshot. It does not assert that the system has no tests, that all test source was exhaustively executed, or that no unpublished evaluation exists. The search terms alone are not treated as a proof of global absence.

Behavioral-authority paths

BAP-1: OBJ-1 and static prompt → main model via system/context messages → instruction and advisory evidence → current invocation. Runtime budgets and turn fencing enforce execution bounds separately. Status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/turn/loop.ts:130-162.

BAP-2: Effect classification and human decision → connector/SDK executor via policy branch and stored approval → enforcing/permissive operational force → selected call and continuation, bounded by expiry and turn ownership. Status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/tools/mcp/policy.ts:160-186, src/brain/slack/turn.ts:654-713. No truth license attaches to approval.

BAP-3: OBJ-6 → scheduled model call via framed prompt/access payload → instruction and routing → each scheduled invocation until cancellation/update. Status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/tools/scheduling.ts:335-430.

BAP-6: OBJ-11, OBJ-12 and OBJ-20 → main/research models via requested results or automatically assembled profile/context → advisory knowledge plus scope/routing metadata → each consumer invocation. RTE-16 controls selection, not truth. Status: wired. Evidence and limits: RTE-16 and OBJ-20.

BAP-7: OBJ-13 → observer via carried notes and ordinary model via interaction_style → extraction guidance and subordinate voice/register instruction → subsequent reflections and turns. Status: wired for delivery; behavioral activation uninspected. Evidence: RTE-17.

BAP-8: OBJ-14, OBJ-15 → model via visible catalog/exact skill load and workspace_prompt → bounded instruction; stored owner/scope determines visibility → later turns until edit/delete. Status: wired. Evidence: RTE-18, RTE-19.

BAP-9: OBJ-16, OBJ-17 → resumed/later model via compacted messages/checkpoint context → advisory evidence and method context → approval continuation or later same-principal thread invocation before expiry. Status: wired for delivery. Evidence: RTE-20, RTE-21.

BAP-10: OBJ-9, OBJ-18, OBJ-19 → planning/admin/entity consumers through scoped history, recency selector or requested exact resolution → knowledge, routing and ranking → later research/lookup until pruning, expiry, reset or replacement. Status: wired. Evidence: RTE-22, RTE-23.

BAP-4: OBJ-9 and RTE-11 flags → human reviewer via draft interface → advisory evidence and discretionary publication choice → one draft/send. RTE-12 enforces identity/state permission, not truth. Status: wired. SRC-1 src/brain/auto-research/draft.ts, src/brain/auto-research/send.ts.

BAP-5: RTE-14 prompt → producing model through system instructions → advisory evidence-checking procedure → current answer. RTE-2's publishability result → Slack delivery selector → enforced formatting admission → selected answer. Status: wired; these separate forces do not jointly establish semantic correctness. SRC-1 src/brain/prompt/system.ts, src/brain/turn/finalization/output.ts.

Runtime account

An ordinary explicit Slack invocation traverses RTE-1, RTE-2 and whichever tool routes its configured actor can reach. The signer proves Slack transport origin; organization/member resolution determines the principal used for memory and connections. Context includes current request/history plus automatically selected retained material. The model proposes tool calls or a terminal answer; the runtime owns budgets, suspension, thread revisions and final delivery. Approval may split a turn across invocations. Completed turns may trigger memory extraction and later style observation. Those are retained-data changes, not proof that the next answer improves.

Material alternatives are passive triage/investigation, direct MCP fallback, Code Mode, remote shell, alarms, operator inspection, research and provider-native research/web calls. They are not all governed by one approval check. Passive turns set readOnly and suppress user-facing approval/progress paths; scheduled work has route-specific access and automatic delivery. Third-party MCP calls, sandbox processes and model services return computation; no inspected route delegates a fresh autonomous Company Brain agent to them. This is a boundary description, not an absence finding across every dependency.

Four static forcing cases were traced:

Case Route and predicted control behavior Strength and limit
Ambiguous native tool name RTE-3 classifies or pauses/denies; RTE-4 personal fallback uses a smaller write-name/destructive predicate Wired branch behavior; no observed malicious tool or proof of semantic completeness
Approval after user changes request RTE-5 rejects a stale turn and expired/wrong-asker decisions Local protocol, dependent on stored state and Slack identity; no end-to-end replay experiment
Sandbox under a read-only app actor RTE-6 remains a separate configured tool family; shell guards and timeout apply Finite command policy, not universal egress or external-write isolation
Alarm after workspace reassignment RTE-7 cancels on workspace/org mismatch; delivery and app scope derive from schedule kind Wired tenant check; no deployed migration or outage evidence

No dynamic check planned. Considered: full Slack/model/memory turn, permission and approval replay, and shell isolation probe. Static code suffices to establish the branch differences and intended local controls; service credentials, configured accounts and deployment isolation were not supplied. Running the application would add remote writes/cost and still would not establish universal guarantees. No target tests or service calls were executed, and no unexecuted test supports an observed or negative behavioral conclusion.

Capability surface is the shipped tool/adaptor set. Current grants are the actor's actual connections, memberships and temporary leases, unavailable in this source-only pass. Deployed isolation is the external host/service configuration, also uninspected. These three are not interchangeable. Observability records tool traces, phase latency and outcomes; instrumentation is not evidence that recorded outputs are true or that a quality intervention worked.

Decision roles: computation proposes answers, code, research drafts and memory candidates; code applies schema/scope/budget rules; the originating user decides gated actions; admins configure shared policy and review/send research; tool services decide remote execution under their grants. Model self-checks have no supplied expected-answer oracle. Tool results, retrieved documents and human corrections can supply evidence but are not an independently verified answer key. Operation serves open requests, passive events, scheduled digests and bounded research batches, rather than an evidenced experimental curriculum. Human configuration and approvals prevent describing the whole application as an autonomous theory builder merely because unattended model calls exist.

The route audit distinguishes immediate return from later consumption. For every route below, delegated-agent visibility is inapplicable: no new Company Brain agent is commissioned by these mechanisms. Remote providers receive the submitted prompt/tool request; visibility beyond the local adapter is uninspected. Activation is uninspected for model-mediated use; deterministic admission/selection effects are wired, never claimed observed.

Routes Immediate return and later read-back Selection, invalidation or expiry
RTE-1, RTE-2 Acknowledgement, generated reply or suspension; recovery and later retained derivatives use their dedicated routes Workspace/member/event/thread identity, active turn revision and budgets; stale/aborted work fenced
RTE-3, RTE-4, RTE-5 Tool output, pause or decision; continuation can reuse stored messages/call state Actor-visible connection and native method; approval asker/workspace/current turn and 15-minute expiry; lease revalidation
RTE-6 Shell/file output or Slack artifact; session reuse can retain files across turns Org/user/thread/repo session selection; stale session or sleeping container recreates; external file lifetime uninspected
RTE-7, RTE-8 Scheduled delivery or configuration result; retained definitions/settings govern later invocation Alarm/creator/destination and admin role; update/cancel/clear or workspace mismatch
RTE-9, RTE-10, RTE-11, RTE-12, RTE-13 Research candidates/flags/send or engagement response; memory/history consumers separately wired Current generation, target/roster and human draft selection; reset/stale-run cleanup; flags alone do not invalidate a draft
RTE-15, RTE-16 Capture result or retrieved content; actual later service write/recall can queue/fail Container/tag/person/channel scope and candidate budgets; service liveness flags/reset generation filter later reads
RTE-17 Observer no-note or submission; carried notes feed next observation, profile feeds later turn Public scope, cursor/generation and HUMAN-labelled input; rejected/non-note result does not advance successful write state
RTE-18, RTE-19 Pending/adopted skill or prompt edit; catalog/body/prompt supplied later Creator/admin scope, skill version/load cap and per-org prompt; edit/delete/clear withdrawal
RTE-20, RTE-21 Compacted state/checkpoint; resumed model or same-principal later thread consumes Selected approval versus thread/principal; approval expiry versus six-hour idle checkpoint TTL
RTE-22 History/watch update; later planner/admin receives scoped prior work Reviewed successful send promotes watch; recency, 14-day half-life/top-20 pruning and selected surfaces
RTE-23, RTE-24 Entity result or maintenance/forget preview/apply; later lookup reflects retained state Normalized identity/reset epoch; scope/exact approved IDs, tag partitions and liveness/expiry filters
RTE-14 Prompt instruction to check answer; no independent persisted critic artifact Current answer/evidence; retention/expiry inapplicable to this static instruction, compliance uninspected

Lens scoping

Memory/context scope

Full depth. Trigger: CLM-1, CLM-3 and SRC-1 memory, skills, compaction/checkpoint and research persistence paths. Specialist frozen input includes the complete repository boundary and excludes static shipped prompt material from the comparison profile. Included objects and routes are specified below and in the profile. External memory service behavior stays opaque; the lens can establish local write/read-back wiring without establishing activation or benefit.

Epistemic scope

Full depth. Trigger: CLM-1's grounded-answer claim, OBJ-2 output, generated memories/style/skills, research drafts and OBJ-3 tool-effect decisions. Question: what is imported, transformed, checked, admitted and retained, and what can legitimately be relied on? Assessed routes include generation, retrieval, extraction, instruction revision, research drafting/sending, output checks and permissions. External model internals, service-side memory synthesis and real-world outcome evaluation are excluded, preventing a complete discovery-lifecycle or learning assertion at those boundaries.

Lens outputs

Memory/context lens

Independent specialist inventoried knowledge documents and access metadata, learned style, mutable skills/workspace guidance, durable approval compaction, thread investigation state, research/watch history and entity/company caches. All accepted route evidence is retained above; the local report is provenance only. Static shipped prompts, ordinary transient state, general configuration and telemetry are excluded from the comparison boundary. External service internals remain explicitly outside it.

The wired consumers establish availability and delivery, not demonstrated activation or benefit. Ordinary turn assembly automatically supplies the selected profile, editable guidance and skill catalog; the model may use them differently on different calls. The catalog's instruction to load relevant skills is a prompt, while its scope visibility and load-count cap are executable. A requested skill read counts as pull even though code returns the body; the automatic index is a separate push.

RTE-16 has identifier push for exact asker/person/channel/container selection and coarse push for broad shared availability and capped recent candidates. RTE-17 adds exact asker matching on agent-self entries. RTE-18 selects personal skill visibility by creator ID and org scope, then budgets by recency. RTE-19 broadly supplies the org's single workspace instruction. RTE-20 selects the approved persisted continuation; RTE-21 selects exact thread/principal state. RTE-22 selects retained send records by operator-chosen surface and watches by availability/recency. No automatically inferred embedding or lexical relevance push is needed to describe these routes. Semantic search and query-to-tag matching fulfill explicit consumer requests instead.

Requested reads are concrete: turn-model tools call memory search, tag recall, topic navigation, skill load and entity resolution. Research planning automatically assembles prior bodies and a default profile read before generation; admin chat automatically appends selected recent outcomes. Source evidence reaches the model unevenly: skill and memory readers mostly return text, checkpoint readers carry digests and literal excerpts, and research draft source trails are primarily a reviewer surface. A compacted result digest identifies retained evidence but cannot reconstruct discarded output.

The fourteen axes describe the same boundary and are proposals for parent integration. Storage is SQLite plus external service objects, not inferred Supermemory internals. The application's “permissions graph” language and topic tree do not establish a graph substrate. SDK names mentioning VectorDB and comments mentioning Postgres describe surrounding or historical machinery; the inspected adapter is a service client.

Natural language and symbolic form both matter: dates, scopes, status flags, exact identifiers, per-principal keys and digests are operational inputs, not merely display decoration. The compaction alternative is transparent structured JSON, so no opaque provider-state branch prevents this application-visible form classification. This says nothing about the service's internal embeddings or provider weights. Application-visible service memory payloads are covered: src/memory/memories.ts:4-40,135-162,191-205 maps readable memory text and explicit metadata, while src/compat/routes/v4/search/handlers.ts:27-39,51-69 exposes memory/chunk strings, scores, IDs and metadata. The latter uses a TypeScript cast rather than runtime payload validation; the classification is therefore wired interface consumption, not an observed assertion about every returned value. No separate opaque service state is passed through to the model on these memory routes.

Curation maps conservatively. Deterministic checkpoint reduction consolidates; watch ranking/expiry and explicit deletion forget/downweight; skill and tag changes evolve; successful reviewed research raises target salience; model-generated generalized style/research conclusions can synthesize. The semantic duplicate/supersession claims made about downstream extraction do not establish a locally inspectable dedup operation. Exact key checks, overlapping-page suppression and repeated-output suppression are insufficient. Remote forget may retain historical entries, but that fact is not established here, so invalidate is not asserted. The complete set is for inspected local operations and externally invoked forget behavior, not service internals.

Trace learning is wired across all identified durable-derivative branches. Source, timing and form fields include them together, rather than classifying only the most visibly named learner. Cross-task reuse is explicit for company/person knowledge, style, entity cache, reusable procedures and research history; per-task continuation is explicit for approval. The investigation route deliberately keys by thread and principal rather than task. Because later requests may be continuations or different tasks, the full learning-scope set is not determinable. No session/thread identifier is silently translated into per-task or per-project.

The behavioral authority union includes knowledge and bounded instructions, symbolic routing/ranking, visibility enforcement and retained observer notes that condition later learning. These are artifact-to-consumer relations. They do not promote recalled claims into fixed system policy. No measured model reliance, improved performance, or faithful reason preservation is asserted.

Epistemic lens

1. Source-and-claim boundary

See SRC-1 and SRC-2, CLM-1, CLM-3, CLM-4 and CLM-5. Full application lens: what enters, changes, gets checked, is admitted, persists and influences future decisions. Runtime and memory mechanisms remain in their canonical records; this overlay adds epistemic function and warrant. No candidate-linked execution instance was inspected. External memory synthesis and model reasoning are uninspected; neither opacity nor missing run evidence proves that informal criticism is absent.

2. Epistemic-object inventory

Object Epistemic part and transformation Producer/consumer and lineage Limit

OBJ-10 Imported engagement plus bounded reshaping See RTE-13 Warrant limited to returned records and explicit completeness flags
OBJ-13 A claim that explicit human preference is durable/team-level is an ampliative conjecture; rendering it as future style guidance is a subsequent policy update See RTE-17 and RTE-17 A speaker's own preference does not by itself establish a durable group preference
Other integrated memory objects Imported facts, generated extractions/summaries and editable procedures, with provenance on their canonical records See memory lens External profile transformation remains indeterminate; a skill is not automatically a formulated theory

3. Authority-route ledger

Architectural status is implemented for all ledger rows below: inspected code wires the operation, including delivery of model instructions. This does not establish semantic compliance. Each row separates one function; generic endpoints and evidence remain on its canonical record. All rows have observed candidate state no instance observed. No evaluator here has a supplied expected-answer oracle; structural checks have only their stated formal domain.

Route Function Content/update relation Check target, evaluator and result Epistemic license; operational/behavioral force

4. Per-object lifecycle disposition

OBJ-13, through RTE-17 and RTE-17, has an implemented observation/generalization route and model-directed HUMAN-evidence self-check. Each phase's observed candidate state is no instance observed. A recorded test consequence, evidence-consuming epistemic acceptance, and post-acceptance lifecycle integration have architectural status no route found within boundary in these inspected producers/consumers. This is a bounded route finding, not an assertion that no human ever checks a note. Retention and later delivery remain implemented independently. RTE-24 affords later human content criticism; no candidate-linked criticism, blame assignment, revision and later reliance instance was supplied.

OBJ-2, OBJ-7 and OBJ-9 have indeterminate transformations: faithful reshaping, inference and unsupported ampliation remain possible. Provenance and model grounding instructions exist, but need actual source/output pairs to decide. OBJ-8's factual focus/relevance shares this limitation; its target selection is policy. OBJ-10 is acquisition/import with bounded non-ampliative reshaping; discovery lifecycle is not applicable. Scope and read failures bound what its observations warrant.

No lifecycle record for OBJ-1: imported input alone is not a produced truth-apt candidate; relevant acquisition route RTE-1. No lifecycle record for OBJ-4: operational approval object; relevant route RTE-5. No lifecycle record for OBJ-6: scheduling instruction; relevant update/consumer RTE-7. OBJ-3 and OBJ-5 need actual program/output instances before assigning a truth-apt lifecycle. The integrated procedural skill has no established truth-apt candidate merely by being stored; its update route is RTE-18. Other memory transformations retain the canonical record's indeterminate or acquisition disposition; server-side extraction does not supply a known epistemic acceptance phase.

5. Claims versus routes

CLM-1 has implemented retention, retrieval and context delivery, without observed correctness or causality. CLM-2 is narrowed to local scope checks and per-path permissions; alternate classifiers and opaque services block a universal guarantee. CLM-3 has implemented instruction editing, style derivation and read-back, without demonstrated improved capacity. CLM-4 has prompt-delivered evidence checking and human-correctable memory; deterministic finalization does not establish semantic checking succeeded. CLM-5 explicitly bounds the long-horizon aspiration; bounded onboarding/proactive research is implemented. No claim has observed-run or causal support in this evidence boundary.

6. Bounded epistemic conclusion

Company Brain acquires company/external content, generates candidates, supplies source traces and check instructions, and offers human review/correction. Its hard checks mainly govern identity, scope, shape, limits and operational delivery. Those checks do not automatically license factual reliance, and the implemented human send decision does not require a truth verdict. The strongest retained adaptation is human-correctable guidance used by later turns; its actual behavioral effect and capacity gain remain uninspected.

Reconciliation

The fresh memory specialist worked from frozen input SHA-256 2f6bd09cf4ba3910e9eeaa1e0bed65475c5ba156f3375dbfad80c386889b072b; run, source, boundary, method hash, complete status and report quotes were checked before integration. Its profile was retained with exact-token canonical remapping. A targeted follow-up strengthened the bounded faithfulness absence with reproducible search evidence; it did not change input bytes or classifications. The fresh epistemic worker received source identities and subsequently the runtime seeds, not the memory report. Both independently identified style read-back and the distinction between source guidance and semantic verification. The coordinator owns all final reconciliation, not either specialist's approval.

No material conflict is hidden by choosing a stronger status.

Epistemic refinement: the worker described consumption as wired for delivery, with activation unknown. The integrated theory-builder condition 2 is explicitly uninspected for content-dependent decision-making; the wired delivery finding remains on its routes. This narrows no source fact and prevents upgrading context presence into consumption. Reflection is separately established at RTE-2's deterministic turn-state/budget path; learned-style reflection is only afforded at the current service/model evidence boundary.

Bounded synthesis

Company Brain combines a Slack-facing enclosing agent runtime with an external memory service and several execution adapters. Signed events become organization-owned turns; a hosted model chooses actions; local code controls the available tools, budgets, suspended approvals, live updates and reply delivery. The same core loop serves different principals and modes. Code Mode and direct MCP fallback are materially different control paths, and remote shell work has a third effect boundary.

Its distinctive memory contribution is the combination of scope-aware company recall, automatic profile/style context, individually loadable skills, thread/principal investigation retention and approval continuation. The strongest supported improvement contribution is durable, human-correctable guidance plus retained work that a later consumer can receive. No before/after capacity assessment or intervention was inspected. The memory profile's trace-learning classification describes qualifying trace-fed writes, not demonstrated learning through criticism.

For internal question answering, the implementation supports scoped retrieval and explicit evidence-checking instructions. It does not establish that every generated assertion is grounded. For action-taking, approval and identity checks provide real controls, but their scope follows the selected adapter and the actual grants. For proactive research, inspectable drafts, source trails and explicit human sending support review; flags do not constitute semantic acceptance. The shipped guide itself limits dedicated long-running research claims.

The following properties use Commonplace definitions as annotations of those source-native mechanisms, not as replacements for them. No product ranking or Commonplace transfer recommendation follows.

Property Conclusion status Boundary and supported finding
Theory-builder condition 1: localized content afforded Style notes and skill bodies can state proposed solutions in identifiable text units; no actual retained theory instance was inspected
Theory-builder condition 2: content-dependent consumption uninspected Delivery and an instruction to use style/skills are wired, but no decision whose change depends on a specific theory's content was observed or otherwise established; delivery alone does not close this condition
Theory-builder condition 3: content-directed criticism and resulting revision/reliance afforded Human correction and source-targeted forget/save procedure explicitly support criticism of wrong facts or behavior; no instance establishes the exact claim, blame assignment or resultant change
Theory-builder condition 4: iteration afforded Revised content or deletion can persist to later recall across sessions; no linked criticism→retained result→next-round instance establishes completed iteration
Theory-builder membership uninspected The combined application/operator process affords parts of the route, but all four conditions have not been established at one evidence level
Learning uninspected Future-answer/style capacity is the relevant objective; no supported capacity gain attributable to criticism, nor persistence of such a gain, was assessed
Reflection of runtime state wired OBJ-1 represents the system's own step budget/execution state; generated steps update it and RTE-2 uses it to change active tools/wrap-up. This is a specific internal two-way control path, independent of whether learned style changes model behavior
Reflection of learned persona/style afforded HUMAN feedback can update retained OBJ-13 and later voice/register guidance; model uptake and external profile processing bound the claim
Reflective theory builder uninspected No linked criticism of shipped method texts against their operational records establishes conditions 1–4 for those methods
Autonomous theory builder uninspected Membership itself remains unestablished. The correction/adoption routes include human criticism, veto and selection; automatic model generation does not remove those roles
Self-improvement pathway wired Dispositional, bounded to style/preference adaptation: explicit feedback can shape retained guidance installed into a later context. Objective is better fit to expressed working/style preferences; team-level generalization can be wrong
Occurrent self-improvement uninspected No subsequent operation was shown causally to depend on an evidence-responsive self-change. This missing causal link is separate from the missing evidence of successful improvement

Addressability is afforded at individual memory/skill entries and their editable fields; nothing establishes separately exposed assumptions and scope conditions for every rule. Whole-unit replacement remains possible. Persistence is wired for retained guidance across sessions, investigation across turns within its expiry, and continuation across an approval pause; these are distinct horizons. Retained reasons/criticism are route-specific and are not inferred from raw trace retention. The theory-builder and learning conditions apply independently of the model-weight question.

A retained source/output/criticism/revision/later-use sequence would change the membership assessment. A controlled comparison of later capacity would change the learning conclusion. Deployment-specific access/isolation evidence, service version contracts and forcing runs across both MCP routes and shell would narrow the permission limits. Changes in source revision require a new analysis rather than an unpinned extension of this result.

Verification and blockers

Semantic verification

Checked canonical uniqueness and referents, full source revisions, selected evidence ranges, conclusion statuses and separate epistemic vocabulary. The retained result contains the supporting material needed without the local specialist report. All quote passages were matched against pinned blobs; matching establishes occurrence, and attached record review checked their semantic support separately. No truncated tool output supplies a load-bearing finding.

Comparison scope was checked against OBJ-7, OBJ-9 and OBJ-11, OBJ-12, OBJ-13, OBJ-14, OBJ-15, OBJ-16, OBJ-17, OBJ-18, OBJ-19, OBJ-20 and their actual consumers. Application-visible readable text and structured metadata are included; external embeddings/weights and extraction internals, sandbox arbitrary artifacts, static prompts, general configuration and telemetry are excluded. The object splits preserve every scoped branch and profile reference. No vector/graph substrate was inferred from product terminology.

Every qualifying write was considered: RTE-15 Slack/turn extraction, RTE-17 style/carried notes, RTE-18 generated approved skills, RTE-20 durable deterministic compaction, RTE-21 investigation checkpoints, RTE-22 delivered-work watch/history, RTE-9 company research and RTE-23 entity cache. RTE-19 manual workspace guidance is excluded from trace learning; transient-only compaction and raw logs are also excluded. Source/timing/form aggregate across the qualifying branches. Cross-task and per-task routes coexist, while the investigation thread does not determine a complete task-horizon classification; learning_scope remains not-determinable.

For push, RTE-16 selects shared and asker/person/channel material, RTE-17 selects eligible style by asker plus broad facets, RTE-18 selects visible skill catalog by owner/scope and recency/budget, RTE-19 supplies one current org prompt, RTE-20 resumes the selected approval, RTE-21 matches thread and principal, and RTE-22 selects scoped history/watch candidates by surface/recency. Requested semantic search and exact skill/entity/node reads remain pull. This supports coarse and identifier push signals without upgrading extraction or requested search into inferred push selection.

Runtime alternate-path audit retains the differing RTE-3, RTE-4 and RTE-6 controls. Epistemic checks, operational permission, retention and truth acceptance remain separate. Learning, theory-builder membership, reflection and self-improvement are each assessed independently; no wired adaptation or comparison-axis value is promoted to observed benefit. ABS-1 concerns retained dependence-testing evidence within a searched snapshot, not an unbounded claim of no private testing. No unresolved semantic blocker remains.

Deterministic validation

commonplace-validate --full kb/reports/state/agentic-system-analysis/AAS-2026-09-26-company-brain-01/result.md — PASS, clean. The typed memory report also validates cleanly; source/input/method identities and exact quote occurrence were checked.
