Talorys epistemic report
Type: agentic-system-analyses/types/agentic-system-epistemic-report.md
Source-and-claim boundary
The question is how Talorys acquires personal claims, checks their relationships, changes reliance and carries them into later answers or actions. Scope and exclusions are those of the boundary; evidence identities and layers are in its Source register. All new inspection uses SRC-1 at the frozen commit. Implementation is not observed activation. No target execution, inference, tests or experiments were performed.
The material boundary includes personal memories and lifecycle metadata, conversation summaries, generated answers and saved note text, recalled excerpts, automation instructions, conflict judgments and the shipped semantic evaluator. Task/schedule state and approval receipts have narrow operational truth conditions; they do not establish the truth of accompanying prose. Remote provider parameters remain opaque: see RT-CMP-workers-ai, RT-CMP-workers-embedder, and RT-CMP-clef. No inspected adapter trains those parameters; neither immutable weights nor absence of provider-internal learning follows from a model name.
Consequential warrant claims are EPI-CLM-current-facts, EPI-CLM-history-preservation, EPI-CLM-semantic-pass, and the supplied RT-CLM-context-authority. Approval and scheduled-grant claims are operational, not truth guarantees: see RT-CLM-approval-boundary and RT-CLM-scheduled-grants.

| Installer CLI dispatch and deployed policy | packages/create-talorys/src/cli.ts |
Direct command enumeration/dispatch read; RT-RTE-product-update supplies installer/build details | install/update/status/doctor/reset-password/help are provisioning/health paths, not inferred model-quality gates; no deployment observed |
No supplied record needs supersession: the new records separate material parts and expose qualifications rather than contradict the runtime's bounded identities. Available but uninspected files above remain included, not inaccessible or absent. Missing run evidence prevents exercised-behavior and acceptance-instance conclusions; inaccessible provider internals prevent claims about parameter adaptation. Those gaps do not prevent the implementation findings below.

The imported-content row concerns backup fields and direct owner statements, not the model's paraphrase. Import preserves the selected content's bytes/fields subject to schema/merge rules, but source warrant is unknown; selecting a file is not per-claim acceptance. Foreground model prose and summary prose are indeterminate between faithful reshaping, entailed derivation and ampliative conjecture without actual inputs/outputs. An unchecked request to be factual cannot choose among them. For excerpt slicing, full semantic preservation also fails as a universal claim; see EPI-RTE-item-delivery.

Bounded conclusion
Talorys implements retention and future delivery of personal assertions without first requiring evidence-consuming truth acceptance: EPI-RTE-memory-retention. Imported assertions are acquired with unknown source warrant; agent-proposed statements and summaries may reshape or add claims, but their actual content relation is unresolved without instances: EPI-OBJ-generated-text, EPI-OBJ-summary. A saved active fact is a reliance candidate, not an independently warranted proposition.
Conflict checking has real but narrower force. Wording rules propose relationships and reviews; optional Clef decisions can retire old assertions or suppress a prospective review. Their target is pair compatibility/currentness relative to supplied text, not independent verification of either assertion. The former has a concrete negation counterexample; the latter has explicit criteria and thresholds but no supplied calibration or external truth evidence: EPI-RTE-wording-check, EPI-RTE-clef-check, EPI-RTE-conflict-disposition. Direct update_memory corrections bypass the optional-check requirement for retiring their target; owner review is not universal: EPI-RTE-lifecycle-change.
Lifecycle links, labels and status filters change later reliance and preserve some revision history. They do not establish post-acceptance lifecycle integration in the technical sense, because no observed evidence-consuming acceptance of a truth claim against a named intended-use criterion is supplied. Owner review can adjudicate a selected pair; the program records the choice but not the owner's evidence or criterion. This is an uncertainty about epistemic acceptance, not an absence of human control or implemented curation: EPI-OBJ-memory-lifecycle, EPI-RTE-lifecycle-change.
Selection and reshaping matter independently of storage. Recall filters historical facts, formats uncertainty, ranks information and may add advisory newer-wins guidance. Recency licenses an instruction to prefer later saves, not factual endorsement; duplicate refresh and edits can advance save time without establishing changed truth. Excerpts can remove a condition, and nominal full-note reads are capped too: EPI-RTE-memory-consumption, EPI-RTE-recency-guidance, EPI-RTE-item-delivery. Summary persistence is automatic under length/budget conditions, without a fidelity oracle: RT-RTE-context-window.
There is narrow symbolic derivation in the evaluator: scores and a pass flag follow from supplied vectors and programmed thresholds. The checked-in PASS is reported operation for those cases, not end-to-end answer correctness. A positive case need not place its target in the three delivered slots, so even the reported surface metric is weaker than guaranteed target delivery: EPI-RTE-semantic-evaluation, EPI-CLM-semantic-pass. No causal comparison isolates embedding, policy or lifecycle benefits.
Operational authorization remains separate. Snapshot approval licenses destructive effects, not a rewritten claim's truth; scheduled grants constrain tools while stored routine messages guide later work: RT-RTE-action-approval, RT-RTE-scheduled-work, RT-BAP-retained-context. These implemented paths can affect future behavior; actual activation and improved future capacity are unobserved. No exercised learning or self-improvement attribution follows. Reflection, autonomous theory construction and formulated-theory criticism are not established by these personal-information paths; this is not a system-wide absence, since arbitrary retained prose, other tests and opaque provider computation were not exhaustively assessed. Each route's supported mechanism and uncertainty stands independently.

EPI-OBJ-memory-lifecycle
Label: Reliance metadata
Source-native identity: status, superseded_by, valid_from, valid_until and tal_memory_reviews. Symbolic fields/links in DO SQLite, with natural-language review reasons separately consumed by the owner. This is distinct from EPI-OBJ-memory-content; closest supplied RT-RTE-owner-changes spans its owner mutation but does not declare these objects. Labels govern eligibility/prompt sections; a pending review does not itself mark either memory uncertain. createReview writes a review row, not status. Deletion clears links without restoring predecessors; restore makes a fact active and detaches its successor. No external truth certification or acceptance rationale is encoded. EPI-OBJ-conflict-assessment
Label: Wording-rule diagnosis
Source-native identity: ConflictAssessment, ephemeral symbolic relationship/confidence/old ID plus natural-language reason. Rule output is material because service disposition consumes it. This is not RT-OBJ-pending-actions: no destructive approval claim/expiry protocol applies. Target: semantic relationship between new and old personal assertions. Fixed overlap/English topic rules are not a semantic proof. For a concrete code deduction, old "I am allergic to peanuts" tokenizes to {allergic, peanut}; new "I am not allergic to peanuts" adds not. Neither explicit-change nor a named slot matches. Strict-refinement returns refines, confidence 0.9, despite negation contradicting the old statement. decide maps this to supersede, but ruleDecision maps that to owner review. This counterexample establishes that the semantic classification is ampliative and fallible, while its deterministic token/set arithmetic remains entailed within its own domain. No execution is claimed. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/memory/conflict.ts, apps/agent/src/memory/service.ts.

EPI-OBJ-clef-answers
Label: Optional decision evidence
Source-native identity: AiBatchVerdict and Clef answers.older_n. Symbolic choice, probability dictionary and memory ID plus generated template reason, held in memory during write; effects persist as lifecycle/review state, and activity records only check counts/outcome usability. Model component is RT-CMP-clef, not a duplicate. Inputs are facts truncated to 500 characters each with explicit same-person criteria. Returned choices are candidate semantic judgments, not known answers. No raw accepted-answer instance, calibration, external corroboration or stable weight identity is supplied. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/memory/conflict.ts, apps/agent/src/memory/service.ts.

EPI-OBJ-summary
Label: Compact later context
Part of: RT-RTE-context-window
The material output object of that route, rather than a second declaration of the whole route: conversation summary and symbolic summary_upto in DO SQLite. Summary is natural-language content consumed in later system input; cutoff controls original-message omission. Factual guidance, trim/slice and persistence impose no semantic acceptance check. The summarizer sees the previous summary and truncated owner/assistant transcript, so source-role text is present but downstream claim-level lineage may be lost. Source warrant is unknown/degraded by this unverified compression. Relation remains indeterminate without output; no invented ampliative instance. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/agent/runner.ts, apps/agent/src/agent/memory.ts. Evidence passage and full route fields: RT-RTE-context-window.

EPI-OBJ-item-lines
Label: Answer from recalled records
Part of: RT-RTE-semantic-hooks
Material returned text of the item hook, not its entire search/index system. Source-native identity: taskLine, noteLine, automationLine and itemSection; ephemeral natural-language text with symbolic IDs. Item metadata/text persist in underlying repositories; derived text crosses to the provider via the system prompt. Dense vectors only select items; code reloads current rows. The heading asks the model to answer from matching saved items without another per-item approval. Preserved identifiers aid reload, not warrant. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/semantic/itemRecall.ts, apps/agent/src/semantic/itemText.ts.

EPI-OBJ-generated-text
Label: Owner answer or saved content
Part of: RT-RTE-owner-chat
Material prose outputs/payloads within a foreground turn, distinct from that turn's transport and control. Natural-language reply or note/memory body, transient in provider events and retained in conversations/notes/memories when the relevant callback succeeds. The model interprets selected personal context and owner request. Individual truth-apt units, source warrant and entailed-versus-conjectural relation are not determinable without an output instance. There is no truth gate in the inspected note-create callback; generic tool success certifies local operation only. Closest RT-OBJ-pending-actions holds proposed destructive changes, not all generated prose. Routes
EPI-RTE-memory-retention
Label: Memory save before checking
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Persisted memory plus superseded/review lists to tool or owner caller.
- Later read-back: Keyword/semantic selectors and explicit searches can retrieve saved active assertions in later invocations.
- Delegated visibility: Model caller receives receipt/content; owner receives memory/review surface; later provider gets selected text.
- Selection predicate: Schema-valid manual/agent create or edit; duplicate current content refreshes its timestamp; conflict review optional.
- Invalidation or expiry: Explicit deletion/clear/correction/edit; review failure does not revoke the newly saved candidate.
- Activation or effect: New nonduplicate memory is active before diagnosis; detection errors leave it stored; no observed reliance.
- Evidence limits: Static source; active retention establishes neither source truth nor evidence-consuming acceptance.
Distinct from both supplied RT-RTE-owner-chat and RT-RTE-owner-changes: shared retention mechanism across their different call channels. Owner or model proposes content; schemas/repository admit it automatically. Human review of each agent write is not required. Open personal-information operation, not a scored experiment; no expected-answer oracle. Guidance is the remember tool/prompt policy, not a truth test. Consumer path: SQLite to later selector/tool to provider, informational/advisory force until mutation or nonselection. Content remains as submitted apart from trim/dedup; truth warrant unknown. EPI-RTE-wording-check
Label: Wording relationship check
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: ConflictAssessment records for related current older memories.
- Later read-back: inapplicable — assessments are transient; selected dispositions persist separately.
- Delegated visibility: No delegated subagent; local service consumes relationship/confidence; owner may see derived review reason.
- Selection predicate: Memory write with conflictReview enabled; keyword and slot-term nominations, excluding self and newer-created rows.
- Invalidation or expiry: inapplicable — no retained assessment; subsequent writes recompute their own comparisons.
- Activation or effect: Fixed program classifies pair and passes result to ruleDecision or optional AI nominations.
- Evidence limits: English lexical/topic scope; candidate coverage bounded by search limits; negation counterexample in object record.
Target/domain: semantic relationships between supplied personal sentences, approximated by token containment, explicit-change expressions and five topic slots. Code proposes/decides classifications; no human contributes to this computation and no answer oracle checks it. Open write-time maintenance. The verdict itself has no admission force until EPI-RTE-conflict-disposition. Closest supplied RT-CMP-clef is the optional model, not these deterministic rules; no supplied route counterpart. Conjectural semantic assertion is distinct from exact set arithmetic. See EPI-OBJ-conflict-assessment for source passage and counterexample. EPI-RTE-clef-check
Label: Optional Clef pair checking
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Parsed relationship/confidence verdicts or null, one question per older memory.
- Later read-back: inapplicable — raw verdicts are not installed as later model context; lifecycle/review effects are separate.
- Delegated visibility: Clef receives truncated new/old facts and criteria, not whole chat history; service receives symbolic answers.
- Selection predicate: Write-time aiConflictCheck plus available Clef/budget/pool; rule nominations plus up to three fresh semantic neighbors at cosine >= 0.6.
- Invalidation or expiry: Three-second timeout, caller abort, malformed answer or provider error yields missing verdict/fallback; no later raw verdict cache.
- Activation or effect: Program validates choice/probability shape and supplies verdict to disposition; no execution supplied.
- Evidence limits: No independent facts or reference answer; choice probability and valid schema do not establish truthful currentness.
Distinct route for the already declared RT-CMP-clef; supplied runtime explicitly leaves verdict admission to specialists. Target is same-person compatibility/replacement, not whether either proposition is true in the world. Code nominates, model judges, code parses; owner can disable the mode or later undo effects, not preapprove each judgment. Criteria encode a real same-person restriction, a counterweight to an overly broad "similarity alone retires facts" interpretation. Semantic nominations check stored text hashes, unlike assuming all retrieved vectors are fresh. No oracle; open maintenance, not a calibration experiment. Response semantic relation remains indeterminate without instances: criteria request interpretation rather than proving entailment. EPI-RTE-conflict-disposition
Label: Conflict disposition thresholds
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Superseded/review lists, or neither; effects written through lifecycle/review repository.
- Later read-back: Owner reads review rows; subsequent model recalls consume lifecycle-filtered facts and labels.
- Delegated visibility: Owner sees review pair/reason, not a source-backed truth proof; model sees resulting memory selection.
- Selection predicate: After rule or optional Clef check; rules never retire directly; confident Clef supersedes at >= 0.8.
- Invalidation or expiry: Lifecycle restore/review/delete can undo or replace effects; rule fallback on unusable Clef answer.
- Activation or effect: Program enforces supersession/review/no-action; compatible Clef >= 0.8 can suppress a rule-review nomination, with exceptions.
- Evidence limits: Operational pair disposition, not evidence-consuming verification of new assertion; no observed acceptance instance.
This is not the checking route. Code owns disposition; Clef can supply decisive evidence, owner later adjudicates pending pairs, and explicit correction has a separate bypass. Prospective review suppression is not a claim that an already persisted review row is necessarily deleted. Below-0.8 supersedes waits for review; semantic-only contradiction needs >=0.7; unconfirmed rule replacements still wait for review. An unusable verdict leaves semantic-only candidates alone. Thresholds are an operational criterion for retiring an old memory for present-tense recall, not an independent truth criterion. Warrant licensed: only the selected relationship judgment, bounded by supplied text, model and nominations. Behavior path: lifecycle/review fields enforce selection eligibility and UI work across turns, while content interpretation remains advisory. No supplied route counterpart; closest supplied RT-RTE-semantic-hooks concerns delivery, not this disposition. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/memory/service.ts, apps/agent/src/memory/conflict.ts.

EPI-RTE-lifecycle-change
Label: Correction review and withdrawal
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: New corrected record, changed status/link, resolved review or deleted record.
- Later read-back: History/recall/search use persisted replacement links and statuses; deletion removes review links and vectors via service paths.
- Delegated visibility: Owner API supplies explicit review/status decisions; model update_memory supplies correction content; later provider gets eligible selected facts.
- Selection predicate: Explicit correction, review action, setStatus, or authorized deletion; AI supersession also calls lifecycle supersede.
- Invalidation or expiry: Restore can reactivate historical record; deletion is permanent locally; preserved old correction text can be restored.
- Activation or effect: Corrections immediately retire target without requiring a successful optional check; human review can keep both, mark historical, replace or cancel.
- Evidence limits: Program verifies existence/link consistency, not factual truth. Human review evidence and intended-use criterion are not recorded.
Distinct cross-channel mechanism spanning RT-RTE-owner-chat, RT-RTE-owner-changes and optional AI disposition. Different principals remain separate: model update_memory proposes AND immediately effects a correction, owner review chooses an action, and Clef threshold disposition can mark history. In none does the link itself validate the candidate content. Prior wording survives correction; owner in-place edit is a different destructive-to-lineage operation despite being named edit. The owner can restore/decline/revise, but no precommit veto exists for the ordinary model correction. Open maintenance; no expected-answer oracle. Lifecycle dates can be parsed from stated date text, which does not certify real-world dates. Consumer/channel/force/horizon: repository status filters enforce future eligibility; prompt headings advise model interpretation until restore/edit/delete. This is retention organization and changed reliance, not proven post-acceptance integration. EPI-RTE-memory-consumption
Label: Lifecycle aware memory consumption
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Selected text/status/date notes within the memory token budget; explicit search receipts use narrower fields.
- Later read-back: Repeated later foreground/scheduled calls rerun selection over retained content; summaries have their own route.
- Delegated visibility: Provider gets current/uncertain/past sections, not all memory records or vectors.
- Selection predicate: Keyword matches/preferences or enabled hybrid recall; English historical-intent test enables history; token budget may skip selected items.
- Invalidation or expiry: Historical status excludes normal current queries; deletion removes records; edits/selection/budgets alter later delivery.
- Activation or effect: Code ranks and enforces delivery eligibility, while prompt text advises reliance; no changed answer observed.
- Evidence limits: Rank, freshness and historical labels are not source truth; pending review alone need not change status.
Part of: RT-RTE-semantic-hooks
This part is the semantic hook's memory consumption and formatting, compared with directly inspected keyword fallback and explicit search delivery. Separate from the parent's item delivery and extension wiring. Selector owns ranking, foreground model may request additional searches, and owner configuration enables semantic mode; no per-hit human approval or answer oracle. RRF combines keyword/vector ranks, preferences pad a small set, status filters omit historical records unless query intent permits. Generic semantic search returns memory content/saved fields without the status field that search_memories preserves, so do not infer uniform lifecycle labeling for every tool result. The latter's status-aware delivery is an important countercase to an indiscriminate "all past facts are asserted current" claim. Source content is mostly imported by selection, but model epistemic reliance is requested rather than verified. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/agent/memory.ts, apps/agent/src/memory/service.ts, apps/agent/src/semantic/recall.ts, apps/agent/src/semantic/tools.ts, apps/agent/src/agent/prompt.ts.

EPI-RTE-recency-guidance
Label: Newer save reliance guidance
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Newest-first timestamp-prefixed memories and, with >=2 selected memories, an additional prompt-only newer-wins line.
- Later read-back: inapplicable — the directive is static shipped policy regenerated each invocation, not a learned retained update.
- Delegated visibility: Provider receives selected natural-language timestamps and directive; never the comparison vectors.
- Selection predicate: Semantic selection with enough memories; pullInNewer can add up to two newer near-duplicates per hit within list limits.
- Invalidation or expiry: No directive with fewer than two; downstream memory token budget may omit lines including this last one.
- Activation or effect: Ranking/delivery is code-enforced; choosing later content as true is advisory model policy, not checked execution.
- Evidence limits: Save recency does not establish event time or truth; added newer candidates may not survive final token filtering.
Part of: RT-RTE-semantic-hooks
Material reliance-policy part, not a distinct retained model. It directly adapts supplied guidance to the selected set without accepting a truth claim. Code selects; model interprets; owner may disable semantic mode, but does not approve each directive. No answer oracle. Near-duplicate cosine is not a logical supersession relation, and pullInNewer skips addition when no eligible slot can be dropped. The subsequent token filter supplies another countercase to the source comment's "never reaches ... without its replacement" wording. Duplicate saves update timestamps even if content is identical, so recency has a bounded bookkeeping meaning. Lifecycle date fields do not treat save time as event time; this separate prompt policy nevertheless uses recency for conflict reliance. SRC-1: apps/agent/src/semantic/recall.ts, apps/agent/src/db/repositories/memories.ts, apps/agent/src/memory/service.ts.

Label: Recalled item excerpt delivery
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Up to three current-row task/note/automation lines within a separate 300-token section budget.
- Later read-back: inapplicable — rendered lines are current-run state; backing retained records are reselected later.
- Delegated visibility: Foreground provider gets titles, snippets, IDs and selected due/schedule fields, not complete bodies or vectors.
- Selection predicate: Enabled semantic item hook, query vector available, surface hits, noncompleted eligible rows; no per-hit approval.
- Invalidation or expiry: Current row disappearance/completion removes line; item budget may omit later lines; failures omit section.
- Activation or effect: Code enforces delivery; heading instructs answer-from-saved-content; no epistemic acceptance decision.
- Evidence limits: Truncated conditions may change apparent claim; scanner/index freshness not independently audited here.
Part of: RT-RTE-semantic-hooks
Material item text output part. The target is relevance for answering, not veracity. Numerical selector plus code decides the candidate set; natural-language heading grants advisory informational reliance for this turn. No oracle. Concrete static counterexample to universal semantic preservation: take a note body consisting of Take 10 mg daily ( followed by 150 letter x characters and then ) only if prescribed by your doctor.. Whitespace normalization leaves this body unchanged. oneLine(...).slice(0,160) preserves the dosage and part of the parenthetical but drops the prescription condition. Thus generic slicing is semantically indeterminate, not guaranteed faithful reshaping. This deduction uses implementation only, no target fixture/execution. Saved full body remains in the repository, but even read_note returns only the first 8000 characters. Code narrows content without validating the resulting proposition. Label: Semantic case scoring
- implementation conclusion status: wired
- operation conclusion status: uninspected
- Immediate return: Per-case score/rank/section-count/pass and aggregate gating pass from supplied vectors and named cases.
- Later read-back: inapplicable — runtime does not read computed case scores; report retention is the separate disposition route.
- Delegated visibility: REST embedding endpoint gets distinct text strings; script gets vectors and computes metrics, no answering model.
- Selection predicate: Explicit script invocation with credentials; declared target IDs/exclusions/surfaces and configured absolute floor/cap.
- Invalidation or expiry: Setup/API errors abort scoring; a later run recomputes outputs; no online policy update.
- Activation or effect: Program derives fixed scoring results; reported table supplies attributed result but no captured execution.
- Evidence limits: Fixed vector arithmetic/domain only; no independent audit of cases JSON, vector correctness or model revision, no causal intervention.
No counterpart in supplied runtime routes: runtime mentioned evaluation only as a provisioning distinction. Target: whether a positive's named item clears an embedding floor, or a negative yields no above-floor item in its selected pool. Oracle is expected target/kind from the repository-authored cases JSON; script validates referenced IDs, not independent relevance judgments. Human case author supplies reference target, embedder supplies representations, deterministic program decides. Bounded offline benchmark, not open chat. A positive need not fall inside the top-three section: the inspected pass predicate checks floor, not rank <= cap. The reported EX-A2 positive has rank four and a three-item section yet passes; that directly limits an interpretation of PASS as guaranteed delivery of the target. Metrics are entailed only conditional on input vectors/cases/config, not a derivation of source truth or agent answer quality. SRC-1: scripts/semantic-eval.mjs, docs/semantic-eval.md.
