Semantic Engine memory report

Type: agentic-system-analyses/types/agentic-system-memory-report.md

Boundary and evidence

The memory boundary includes downloaded archive files, both admission drivers, SQLite documents/chunks and vectors, query read-back, clearing, canvas projection/display and Atlas export. It also checks the standalone comparison page, scaffold UI, schema setup and exposed helpers rather than treating their names as evidence of memory integration. This is an operator-run document memory system, not a conversational agent memory. The frozen source and external-dependency exclusions are those of boundary, SRC-1 at the reviewed commit. There is no additional source or functional exclusion.

Direct implementation reads cover every CLI script; apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/schema.ts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/db.ts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/types/vector.ts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/models.py; chunker and its tests; canvas processor, PCA, clustering helper and browser consumer; Knowledge Gate page and UI App. Direct doctrine/configuration reads cover the root manifest, CLI manifest/README/environment template and Drizzle configuration. Runtime findings supply corroborating records, not execution evidence. No target code, tests, services or model calls were executed. The checkout HEAD equals the frozen revision and Git status was clean when inspected.

Entry point or operation SRC-1 source path Coverage, record or prevented conclusion

External SQLite/Drizzle semantics not executed.
Derive and clear embeddings apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/embed-documents.mts; apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/clear-all-embeddings.mts Direct reads; RT-RTE-embed-chunks, RT-RTE-clear-embeddings. Null eligibility is not freshness validation.
Query retained material apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts Direct read; RT-RTE-query-documents. Consumer is terminal user, not a downstream answer model.
Project, write and reload map apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/process-embeddings.mjs; apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/pca.js; apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/src/index.js Direct reads; MEM-RTE-canvas-display, MEM-OBJ-geojson. Representation, database and filename mismatches prevent a connected current-schema route conclusion.
Optional clustering apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/cluster.js; apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/process-embeddings.mjs Direct reads; exported helper JSON-parses vectors, requests 300 clusters and returns content buckets. Its caller is commented out; no retained output/later consumer wired by this driver. Excluded sample JSON is not used as operation evidence.
Atlas export and alternate vector decoding apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/push-to-nomic-atlas.py; apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/models.py Direct reads; MEM-RTE-atlas-export. External Atlas storage and later use uninspected.
Separate pair comparison apps/knowledge-gate/index.html Direct read; RT-RTE-compare-texts. Current textarea values and returned vectors are invocation-local; no corpus admission/read-back wiring.
UI scaffold apps/semantic-engine-ui/src/App.tsx Direct read; counter state, no retained-document consumer in this App. Entry chain coverage supplied by boundary.
CLI dispatch and editing surfaces package.json; apps/semantic-engine-cli/package.json; apps/semantic-engine-cli/README.md Direct reads; root scripts empty, CLI scripts are schema push and Nomic login; README invokes individual files and affords database browsing/query through Drizzle Studio. GUI editing/admission behavior belongs to uninspected external tooling, not an established curated update route.
Exposed archive client apps/semantic-engine-cli/lib/community-archive/client.ts Direct read; exports configured HTTP client, not local persistence or later consumption. Generated API interface inspection is supplied by boundary; remote service operations do not establish a local memory loop.

External model weights, corpus contents, provider responses and dependency internals are not frozen. Initialization provenance of external documents is unresolved beyond their archive/feed fields. Available support files not read here remain available, not access gaps. The inspected dispatch, driver and browser surfaces expose no agent-tool registration or hook-driven memory admission; this is a bounded account of those entry points, not a claim about untracked deployments.

Core ideas

  1. Text and the retrieval selector persist separately. Root text survives chunking and clearing; dense chunk vectors determine whether and where a root can be retrieved. The best matching chunk is not the final displayed unit. See MEM-OBJ-docs-content, MEM-OBJ-chunks-content, MEM-OBJ-chunks-embedding and RT-BAP-vector-ranking.
  2. Admission is software-controlled after source selection. Operators select files/feeds and initiate runs; source authors supply assertions. Fixed filters, conversion, chunking and numerical derivation determine retained rows, without semantic approval. Metadata and hashes preserve associations, not truth warrants or deduplication gates (RT-RTE-ingest-documents, MEM-OBJ-docs-metadata).
  3. Read-back is query-pulled, not automatic context injection. Query text selects numerical candidates; full roots go to stdout. No retrieved corpus text is delivered to the embedding model or a generative answer model in this route. The budget is ten roots after at most fifty candidate chunks, not a token budget (RT-RTE-query-documents).
  4. Durable derivation does not establish trace learning. These transformations derive chunks, vectors and coordinates from imported documents, not from retained records of system performance. Logs, similarity outputs and test assertions do not feed a subsequent update in the inspected paths. No exercised improvement or retrieval-quality benefit is established. Canvas and Atlas are included alternatives, but current integration is qualified, not silently assumed (MEM-RTE-canvas-display, MEM-RTE-atlas-export).

Operative objects

MEM-OBJ-archives

Label: Downloaded archives

Source-native identity: ./archives/<name>.json, natural-language tweet bodies embedded in symbolic archive JSON, stored as local files. The downloader writes the service's returned text without local semantic curation; the archive loader later parses files chosen by the operator. Original authorship and upstream archive construction remain external. This raw input is distinct from, not part of, the subsequently constructed database rows in RT-OBJ-docs-chunks; closest route is RT-RTE-ingest-documents, which begins at files/feed input. Acquiring a file is not admitting every tweet into retrieval memory. Source: SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/download-archives.mts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-archives.mts.

Usernames filter storage object names, or omission selects all listed archives. Code performs download admission after human invocation; missing local files are written and existing ones skipped. Errors skip an item. There is no expiry, upstream withdrawal synchronization or refresh check here. Later loader invocation receives raw JSON; archive text then passes thread rules before reaching chunks. Local filesystem write permission and remote service behavior are external contracts.

if (fs.existsSync(filePath)) { console.log(filename, 'already exists. Skipping...') return; } --- apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/download-archives.mts

MEM-OBJ-docs-content

Label: docs content

Part of: RT-OBJ-docs-chunks

Source-native identity: docs.content, natural-language text stored in SQLite in the environment-selected file. Archive admission concatenates permitted tweet chains; RSS admission prefixes a title and converts HTML to Markdown. This is imported/normalized source material, not a trace-derived account of the engine's own reasoning. The full archive/HTML is not copied into a separate raw database column. Query reloads this text after vector selection and prints it verbatim as content; the consumer's authority is informational display to a human, not an instruction grant to an agent. Distinct from chunk text and vectors because clearing vectors leaves this content intact. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/schema.ts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-archives.mts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-from-rss.mts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts.

full_text: parentThread.full_text + '\n\n' + tweet.full_text, --- apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-archives.mts

const displayContent = doc.content; --- apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts

MEM-OBJ-chunks-content

Label: chunks content and positions

Part of: RT-OBJ-docs-chunks

Source-native identity: chunks.content, startPosition, endPosition and docId; natural-language text plus symbolic offsets/linkage in SQLite. splitText uses Markdown headings, paragraph breaks, newlines, spaces and finally characters, preserving separators and recording inclusive positions. Loaders pass 512 JavaScript string units. This is segmentation, not model-written summarization, criticism or semantic compression. The embedding model receives chunk content only; IDs pair the results with rows. Query selects chunk content internally but ultimately displays reloaded root content, not a chunk-only evidence excerpt. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/lib/utils/split-text.ts, both admission scripts and apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts.

// Use regex lookahead (?=...) to split before the separator, keeping the separator itself // at the beginning of the subsequent split part. --- apps/semantic-engine-cli/lib/utils/split-text.ts

The authored reconstruction/position checks in apps/semantic-engine-cli/lib/utils/split-text.test.ts are evidence of expected behavior, not observed passes or a semantic relevance evaluator. Roots retain surrounding source text; no special rationale object or later rationale selector is introduced by segmentation.

MEM-OBJ-chunks-embedding

Label: chunks embedding

Part of: RT-OBJ-docs-chunks

Source-native identity: nullable chunks.embedding, declared F32_BLOB(768) via vector32, in SQLite. It is a distributed numerical representation, not natural-language reasons, a readable summary, or altered model weights. Lineage is selected chunk content → configured LMStudio embedding call → ID-keyed SQL update. Initial vectors in an arbitrary preexisting database are uninspected; this does not obscure the known subsequent derivation path. Consumers differ: SQL update admits provider values; later cosine SQL uses retained values to rank roots; clearing removes eligibility without removing source text. See RT-RTE-embed-chunks, RT-RTE-query-documents, RT-RTE-clear-embeddings for supporting passages. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/schema.ts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/types/vector.ts, those three scripts.

return F32_BLOB(${config.dimensions}); --- apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/types/vector.ts

The adapter declares binary vectors, but the embedding driver's SQL CASE supplies JSON-stringified embeddings directly rather than invoking the adapter's normal toDriver conversion per vector. The source thus establishes intended writes and ranking wiring, not successful binary normalization. No execution confirms actual storage representation. This qualifies any stronger reading that every produced value is already a valid F32 vector. No model identity/version, embedding timestamp, validation judgment or derivation rationale accompanies this column; model-switch compatibility and freshness are not checked by the null predicate.

MEM-OBJ-docs-metadata

Label: docs provenance and access metadata

Part of: RT-OBJ-docs-chunks

Source-native identity: root ID, external ID, origin, author, URL, creation/ingestion times, checksum and JSON metadata, stored in SQLite. Symbolic fields link roots to chunks and label source/creator/URL in query output; JSON includes tweet engagement or RSS title. Textual titles/authors may be read by people, but are not an independently enforced trust level. Stored xxhash3 checksums have no equality-check consumer in the two loaders, and fresh random root IDs do not deduplicate repeat imports. Creation/ingestion times are not query recency filters. No read-count/last-access feedback is written by query. Distinct operative part: these fields govern linkage/display and canvas author filtering rather than cosine ranking. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/schema.ts, both admission scripts and apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts; compare the combined RT-OBJ-docs-chunks.

const docId = nanoid(); const checksum = await xxhash3(contentToProcess); --- apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-from-rss.mts

MEM-OBJ-geojson

Label: Canvas GeoJSON

Source-native identity: generated public/<lowercase-username>-test.geojson, a local JSON file containing symbolic GeoJSON geometry/IDs and natural-language properties.text. It is a derived display artifact, not the retained high-dimensional vectors or a model prompt. PCA coordinates derive from vectors for a hardcoded author's joined rows; display text and external ID are copied. No fitted PCA model, projection rationale or original vectors are saved in this artifact. The browser reads a differently named username file, uses text as labels and IDs as outbound tweet links. This is distinct from RT-OBJ-docs-chunks; its producer/consumer alternatives are covered by RT-RTE-display-export and separated below. SRC-1, apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/process-embeddings.mjs, apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/pca.js, apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/src/index.js.

"properties": { "text": results[i].content, "id": results[i].externalId }, --- apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/process-embeddings.mjs

Routes

MEM-RTE-canvas-display

Label: Canvas projection and display

Part of: RT-RTE-display-export

Operator-run processor → hardcoded author join → string-parsed embeddings → centered/scaled two-component PCA → GeoJSON write; separate map-load handler → username file fetch → labels/points/links. Fixed code proposes and admits coordinates without human per-point approval or reference-answer oracle. Operating mode is projection/display, not a performance-driven improvement loop. Imported text and configured algorithm guide the output; ordinary file replacement is the only local successor admission. Failure logs; no prior projection copy or automatic rollback is retained. Source: SRC-1, apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/process-embeddings.mjs, apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/pca.js, apps/infinite-canvas-viewer/src/index.js; supporting mismatch quotations in the parent record.

  • implementation conclusion status: afforded
  • operation conclusion status: uninspected
  • Immediate return: intended GeoJSON write and processor logs; browser displays map labels/points if its requested file exists and loads.
  • Later read-back: map load requests the username-named GeoJSON file and passes its features to MapLibre; no model consumer.
  • Delegated visibility: inapplicable — map rendering is not agent delegation; external map assets and tweet links are separate requests.
  • Selection predicate: processor chooses hardcoded DefenderOfBasic author; browser username parameter/default selects a whole file, not semantic or query-targeted excerpts.
  • Invalidation or expiry: producer overwrites its output path when nonempty results reach write; no automatic database-change regeneration or stale-file removal is implemented.
  • Activation or effect: coordinates position points; text supplies labels; IDs construct links. Current database, representation and filename mismatches prevent claiming connected activation from current CLI state.
  • Evidence limits: no observed generation/display; fixed database path differs from CLI dataset selection, parsing assumes JSON strings rather than declared F32 blobs, no null-vector exclusion, duplicate content columns are not explicitly disambiguated, output has a -test suffix absent from browser fetch.

The requested file is not selected for a model context; all its features are delivered to the map without a token budget. PCA explained-variance logging is not an admission gate or retrieval-quality evaluation. Clustering is imported but its invocation is commented out, so it is not an automatic retained-memory curator here.

MEM-RTE-atlas-export

Label: Atlas dataset export

Part of: RT-RTE-display-export

Operator dataset name/environment → Python session → ORM documents with non-null document embeddings → decoded arrays/metadata → atlas.map_data. The code, not a model or human reviewer, filters values and constructs export payloads. Operating mode is manual export; no improvement trigger, reference oracle or semantic acceptance criterion. Guidance is fixed schema/field extraction. Operators can withhold invocation; no per-content veto, remote rollback or retention policy is established. Source: SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/push-to-nomic-atlas.py, apps/semantic-engine-cli/db/models.py; parent record supplies quotations establishing the unbound URL and obsolete schema.

  • implementation conclusion status: afforded
  • operation conclusion status: uninspected
  • Immediate return: intended Atlas mapping request and progress logs; normal environment-present path encounters an unassigned db_url before querying.
  • Later read-back: uninspected — README directs users to an Atlas dashboard, but no frozen external consumer implementation or returned dataset is available.
  • Delegated visibility: text, URL, source, timestamps, creator ID, extracted ID and vectors are supplied to Nomic if export reaches the call; no agent delegation is shown.
  • Selection predicate: non-null document-level embedding followed by attribute/nonempty checks; this is incompatible with current chunk-level embedding placement, not a semantic relevance criterion.
  • Invalidation or expiry: uninspected — remote retention/replacement semantics are outside the frozen repository; this driver supplies no local rollback copy.
  • Activation or effect: export payload and topic-model request are implemented call sites, not demonstrated successful export or later decision influence.
  • Evidence limits: db_url assignment is unreachable after missing-environment exit; ORM expects old fields; ID split expects a colon-delimited form not guaranteed by current nanoid roots; array shaping and remote interpretation remain untested.

The Python Vector32 decoder accepts JSON strings or bytes and may reshape a 768-value binary vector into (1, 768). This alternative decoding does not repair the exporter schema/initialization defects. Its malformed/empty-value handling can skip export candidates; it does not reject documents from the current SQLite corpus. Remote topic-model configuration is a requested external transformation, not evidence of retained learned topics or a later local consumer.

Annotations

On RT-RTE-ingest-documents

Write agency: external authors supply text; operator chooses files/feed; fixed loader rules admit rows. Archive filtering is not shared with RSS. Raw archive text becomes concatenated thread roots; RSS HTML becomes titled Markdown; then segmentation produces embedding inputs. Missing parent threads and explicit RSS field skips are rejection before persistence, not later withdrawal. Reasons for individual skips are not persisted as queryable adjudications. Checksum storage does not establish content admission by identity. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-archives.mts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/load-from-rss.mts; minimum passages are retained in the annotated record and text-part records above.

On RT-RTE-embed-chunks

Read-back selector receives retained chunk content, not metadata or full roots; batches default to 100. Chunk length is not token-count enforcement. The result is durable numerical retrieval state, not a summary of the engine's execution traces. Admission has no human vector approval or retained quality verdict. Cursor advancement after failure can leave null rows available to a later run; no checkpoint artifact beyond database values and process-local cursor is retained here. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/embed-documents.mts; provider selection/fixity is RT-CMP-lmstudio, and storage qualification is MEM-OBJ-chunks-embedding.

On RT-RTE-query-documents

Read-back direction: user request pulls candidates. Query embedding, not stored text, is the model call's output; only the query is sent to that model. SQL excludes null vectors, ranks at most fifty chunks for the hardcoded ten-root limit, and parent IDs drive full-root reload. All root content reaches stdout with labels and score, without a model-context truncator or source-trust hierarchy. The fifty-chunk budget can be consumed by repeated roots; full-root display has no token budget. Results, queries, feedback and access counts are not written back in this file. Delivery to a human is wired; obedience, relevance and benefit are unobserved. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts; source passages in the annotated record and MEM-OBJ-docs-content.

On RT-RTE-clear-embeddings

Withdrawal affects derived selector state only: non-null vectors become null; roots, chunks, provenance and raw archive files survive. A subsequent query omits cleared rows and a subsequent embedding invocation can derive new vectors from retained chunk text. This is operator-initiated invalidation, not automated belief rejection, content deletion, source-withdrawal synchronization or model-version migration. Any external GeoJSON/Atlas copy has its own lifetime; the clear script does not visit either. SRC-1, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/clear-all-embeddings.mts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/query-documents.mts, apps/semantic-engine-cli/scripts/embed-documents.mts; null-setting passage is in the annotated record.

Write side

The acquisition and admission distinction is consequential: downloaded files (MEM-OBJ-archives) can persist without becoming root text (MEM-OBJ-docs-content). Archive rules remove retweets/replies and join self-threads; RSS applies different checks and conversion. Both keep roots plus segments (MEM-OBJ-chunks-content), with separate document/chunk insertion phases and no enclosing transaction. A partial failure can therefore retain roots without a complete searchable chunk population. Neither fresh IDs nor stored hashes make repeated ingestion a replacement or duplicate-rejection route (RT-RTE-ingest-documents).

Embedding automatically transforms selected retained text into vectors (MEM-OBJ-chunks-embedding). A nonempty returned array is the driver's admission check; correspondence, dimensions, model version and semantic quality are not locally established by that check. Null-only selection is a completion marker, not model-change detection. Raw text remains available, but numerical values retain no explicit reasoning or approval rationale to be read later. Imported prose can itself contain reasons; that is source content, not evidence of engine-generated criticism.

Maintenance consists of explicit vector clearing and external operator/schema powers (RT-RTE-clear-embeddings, RT-BAP-operator-config). The inspected drivers do not implement selective source correction, content expiry, retrieval-feedback updates or semantic withdrawal. This conclusion is limited to their code, not arbitrary database administration. The README affords Studio browsing/query; external GUI edit controls and deployment procedures remain uninspected. No document-deletion or cascade guarantee is inferred from the Drizzle relation declaration.

Alternative outputs have separate admission/lifetime rules: MEM-RTE-canvas-display replaces a projection file, whereas MEM-RTE-atlas-export requests a remote mapping. Neither routes a quality judgment back into the primary corpus. Chunker tests and PCA variance logs do not close an evaluation-to-update chain. No automatic trace-fed update or compaction checkpoint is evidenced by these inspected transformations; external model internals remain opaque rather than declared free of learning.

Read-back

The concrete later consumers are the embedding driver reading text, query SQL reading vectors, root reload/terminal display reading text/provenance, and qualified canvas/export consumers. Persistence is dataset-file scoped, across separate operator invocations, until external editing/removal or explicit clearing for vectors. There is no expiry timer in these drivers. RT-BAP-vector-ranking supplies the principal behavioral-authority path: durable numerical values influence candidate order, not truth, instruction priority or source reliability.

No automatic push selector supplies unsolicited retained material to an agent. Browser map-load fetching is automatic after load but retrieves the requested whole username file for rendering; a filename parameter is not evidence of personalized semantic context selection. Knowledge Gate sends current textareas to OpenAI and displays a score; despite its name, it neither admits nor rejects the stored corpus (RT-RTE-compare-texts).

Working-context control is correspondingly thin. The embedding driver limits current input by chunk segmentation and batch size; query embeds only current query text. There is no conversation history, trimming, summarization, isolated subagent frame or reloadable context stub in these inspected model call sites. Corpus chunks live outside each call and remain reloadable by database selection. A stack-frame analogy adds little: no nested reasoning context returns a compacted result, and persistence/eligibility is determined by explicit rows/null checks, not context-window references or liveness. This prevents attributing a conversational context-management loop while preserving the implemented external-content read-back.

Integration issues

  1. Vector storage qualification, not an experimentally established failure. RT-OBJ-docs-chunks declares the binary schema and RT-RTE-embed-chunks describes an ID-keyed update. MEM-OBJ-chunks-embedding adds that the CASE writes JSON-stringified values directly. Actual storage conversion depends on external database/ORM behavior; therefore a guaranteed current binary-vector pipeline cannot be inferred. This qualifies downstream interoperability, without correcting the runtime's stated wiring.
  2. Container/part reconciliation. The four root/chunk text, vector and metadata records are explicit parts of RT-OBJ-docs-chunks, not replacements or duplicate stores. MEM-OBJ-archives and MEM-OBJ-geojson are distinct pre-admission and derived file objects. The two declared consumer routes are parts of RT-RTE-display-export; retaining that valid container does not make them one working chain. No other possible duplicate was found against supplied declarations.
  3. Unresolved canvas text identity and connection. MEM-RTE-canvas-display retains the database/representation/filename mismatches and joined duplicate-content ambiguity. Which text a particular driver version exposes, whether generated files exist, and whether a deployment repairs naming are unobserved. This prevents treating map labels as proven root or chunk read-back from the current corpus.
  4. Unresolved external initialization and export. Preexisting vector provenance, immutable model identity, actual corpus/source quality, database coercion and Atlas payload handling/later consumption are unavailable or unobserved, as scoped in MEM-OBJ-chunks-embedding, MEM-RTE-atlas-export and RT-CMP-lmstudio. The exporter's extra colon-ID assumption and decoder shaping qualify even hypothetical repairs of its initialization/schema. These limits prevent operational/freshness/benefit conclusions, not source-level analysis of the known transformations.

No supplied fact requires a direct correction beyond these qualifications. No epistemic/workflow member was supplied; potential overlap with their future declarations cannot be assessed here.

Limitations and checks

Source and method identity were rechecked against the complete invocation, supplied member types, collection and shared-record contracts. Direct Git inspection confirmed the reviewed HEAD and clean checkout before source analysis. No evidence layer was promoted from implementation/doctrine to observed operation. No external source, prior analysis, target execution or added provider call supplies support.

Uninspected dependency/provider behavior and absent registered traces prevent claims of successful end-to-end storage, map/export connection, retrieval quality, reliability, learning benefit or exercised self-improvement. Bounded software negatives above do not characterize external deployments or inaccessible model processing.

Validation: the invocation's deterministic validate-output command passed for this candidate. Its scope is content/relation form and quotation occurrence, not analytical correctness or acceptance.
