Incremental self-improvement report verification

Verification

The pinned runtime, memory, epistemic, workflow and reconciliation support a bounded documentary account. I independently read the complete registered SRC-1 capture, /home/zby/llm/commonplace/.commonplace/worktrees/incremental-self-improvement-90fb0a2a9508/kb/agentic-system-analyses/state/AAS-2026-10-14-fki198-94-pdf-90fb0a2a9508-01/sources/fki198-94.txt, lines 1–1043, and compared the records and their load-bearing passages with their surrounding conditions. The boundary correctly distinguishes the complete paper from an unavailable executable loop. Its enclosing-runtime classification follows the documented ownership of repeated instruction selection, execution and credit assignment. Neither the paper's title nor its claimed working implementation upgrades the Source register to implementation or observed-run evidence.

Records and evidence dispositions

  • Interpreter and state: SRC-1 §§3.1–3.2 and Table 1 support RT-CMP-probability-distributions, RT-OBJ-work-area, RT-OBJ-program-area and RT-RTE-instruction-cycle. Sampling realizes integer code at each visit; surviving work cells are not necessarily decoded event memory. The individually addressed probability table has fixed symbolic sampling/update consumers, rather than an evidenced distributed representation. Birth initialization, run restart and task reset remain distinct. The arithmetic extraction damage does not invalidate the supported dispatch and persistence account.
  • Policy change and recovery: SRC-1 §3.2 and §4 comments 1, 5–7 and 17–19 support RT-CMP-top-level, RT-OBJ-stack, RT-RTE-self-modification, RT-RTE-credit-assignment and RT-BAP-probability-selection. Operand/MinP admission precedes a live change; EndSelfMod enables later retention checking. Saved distributions and numerical baselines reach different consumers. Restoration costs can trigger additional popping, and only direct distribution changes are reversed. The reports do not substitute all-state rollback or advance approval for this sequence.
  • Claims: RT-CLM-usefulness-invariant is a source-asserted historical invariant with enforcement suspended during unfinished programs, not safety or causal identification. EPI-CLM-future-usefulness correctly preserves the source's explicitly defeasible future assumption. SRC-1 §§5.1–5.3 support the attributed figures in RT-CLM-experimental-comparison; the report correctly refuses to treat the enabled final current maze average and disabled lifetime average as matching statistics. Disabled IncP/DecP constitute a bundled comparison, not independent variation of GetP or any particular update. Claimed operation and uninspected causal support are appropriate.
  • Additional memory routes: SRC-1 §3.2 and §5.1/Table 2 support MEM-OBJ-variable-array, MEM-RTE-getp-read and MEM-RTE-variable-readback. External values persist only until overwrite/reset; GetP yields a current scaled snapshot, not evaluation history. Both read routes have specified later consumer roles but no supplied trace of exercised later use. The memory annotations preserve those distinctions without changing supplied referents.
  • Epistemic parts and functions: EPI-OBJ-input-cells and EPI-OBJ-getp-values distinguish defined encodings from arbitrary work integers. EPI-OBJ-rate-comparison is the transient historical predicate, not the saved measurements or evaluator. SRC-1 §§3.2 and 5 support EPI-RTE-input-supply, EPI-RTE-getp-read and EPI-RTE-rate-comparison. Conditional numerical derivation, input acquisition and quantized policy copying have narrower warrant than causal or predictive knowledge. The ledger separates checking, operational disposition, snapshot retention and non-truth-apt policy adaptation. Its doctrine-only architectural status does not deny the author's reported operation. No machine-produced explanatory claim or content-directed criticism is established, but arbitrary computation is not classified as proved incapable of either.
  • Workflow: SRC-1 §5.1 and §5.1.2 support WF-RTE-variable-cycle. Immediate external writes, periodic exact-match scoring, reset and continued lifetime interaction form a coherent selected workflow. First maximal payoff is reported delivery at one event, not stable perfection or terminal acceptance. No worker delegation or answer-document delivery is invented.

Relations, reconciliation and omissions

I checked every declared Part of: relation. Input and GetP values are work-area parts; the comparison route is a credit-assignment part; the memory read routes and input supply refine general instruction execution. The epistemic GetP parent points to the broader self-modification account, which explicitly includes introspection, rather than asserting that every GetP execution modifies policy. The reconciliation makes this distinction explicit and supersedes that duplicate route with the memory declaration, whose canonical parent is instruction execution. Both declarations describe the same scaled read and retain the same evidence strength. This supersession preserves the epistemic transformation and reflection findings, rather than selecting a stronger status. The external array, snapshot output, comparison predicate and workflow cycle remain distinct referents. The workflow spans dispatch and scoring/retention interfaces rather than being contained by exactly one route. No further supersession or required missing material part was identified.

The supplied correction-answer files are empty. The report-check says none, so there is no structural failure to route. The memory integration issues are all disposed in reconciliation: operand ambiguity remains bounded, agent-facing history access is not inferred from GetP or sp, and proposed alternatives are not promoted to active mechanisms. No unresolved cross-report contradiction was found. Shared source dependence is correctly not represented as independent corroboration. There are no declared evidenced-absence records; boundary exclusions and uninspected behavior are not converted into implementation-wide negatives.

Consequential omission questions were selected from the complete document, not just the quoted anchors. I traced whether task drivers undermine persistence or own the reward oracle (§§5.1–5.2), whether unfinished programs bypass the retention guarantee (§3.2 and §4 comment 1), and whether teacher protection, instruction reuse or circular history change ordinary admission, replay or restoration (§4 comments 11, 15–16 and 19). The existing reports preserve each relevant distinction. I also checked §5.3 and §6 for a richer active primitive set, additional agent history access or a separate knowledge-production loop. Richer primitives and neural hardware are suggestions/future work; historical systems are not the selected runtime. These passages do not justify stronger implemented, exercised-reflection or theory-building conclusions. Further omission expansion stopped because the complete capture resolves the selected documentary questions, while unavailable code and traces cannot be recovered by further text searches. The supported comparison is a documented live policy/retention mechanism and attributed toy-task benefit, not complete shipped-path coverage or independently verified causal improvement.

Limits

  • MEM-RTE-variable-readback, RT-RTE-instruction-cycle and WF-RTE-variable-cycle: SRC-1 §5.1 prose and Table 2 disagree about Read's destination operand. Task-to-work transfer and the specified consumer remain supported; readers must withhold an exact Read destination formula or faithful executable reconstruction from this extraction.
  • RT-RTE-self-modification, RT-CLM-usefulness-invariant and RT-RTE-instruction-cycle: SRC-1 §3.2 distinguishes run halting from self-modification completion by EndSelfMod, without supplying implementation handling of their interaction. The conditional retention guarantee and live-policy route remain supported; readers must withhold a verified halt-recovery protocol for an unfinished self-modification program and any hard bound on evaluation delay.
