Trajectory-informed memory generation boundary

Boundary and evidence

This run analyses the memory-generation and retrieval framework described in Trajectory-Informed Memory Generation for Self-Improving Agent Systems. Its intended use is to turn completed agent trajectories into reusable guidance for later tasks. The target is a memory/knowledge/context-engineering system, not an enclosing agent runtime. It qualifies because its extraction, attribution, generalization, consolidation and optional retrieval selection depend on model calls. SRC-1, §3, §3.1.1–§3.3.

The second stage uses an LLM to identify cognitive patterns within extracted thoughts through semantic understanding rather than keyword matching. --- /home/zby/llm/commonplace/.commonplace/worktrees/trajectory-informed-memory-generation-a956324c9a82/kb/agentic-system-analyses/state/AAS-2026-10-14-2603-10600v1-a956324c9a82-01/sources/2603.10600v1.html

The functional boundary includes the documented three-phase pipeline: trajectory analysis and task/subtask tip extraction; tip generalization, clustering, merging and storage; and retrieval plus prompt integration before the next agent execution. It includes the declared strategy, recovery and optimization tip categories and their provenance metadata. It also includes the paper's evaluation configuration and reported comparisons on AppWorld train, dev and test-normal. These are design descriptions and attributed results, not verified implementation or independently observed operation. SRC-1, §3.1–§4.4.

The boundary kind is complete artifact, partial loop. The complete captured document describes production, maintenance and consumption of retained tips, but it does not provide an inspectable executable loop. No repository was supplied or acquired; no implementation repository is inferred from the paper's links. There are consequently no tracked repository entry points or shipped callers to trace. The reported consumer is a simplified ReAct-style agent; that consumer and the benchmark are described as evaluation context, not inspected software. SRC-1, §4.1.2–§4.1.5.

Both the agent and the tip extraction pipeline use GPT-4.1. --- /home/zby/llm/commonplace/.commonplace/worktrees/trajectory-informed-memory-generation-a956324c9a82/kb/agentic-system-analyses/state/AAS-2026-10-14-2603-10600v1-a956324c9a82-01/sources/2603.10600v1.html

External dependencies described by the paper are language models, a text embedding model, vector storage/search, the consuming agent and its application APIs, and AppWorld's benchmark/evaluation machinery. Their implementation, operational guarantees and deployment behavior are outside the frozen evidence. The capture supports explaining their documented interfaces and roles, not attributing their responsibilities to the memory system. SRC-1, §3.1–§3.3 and §4.1.

Evidence coverage and limits

Material Treatment Conclusion supported or prevented
Abstract, §1–§2 Inspected; included as motivation and declared requirements Supports intended problem and scope, not the truth of broad claims about competing systems.
§3.1.1–§3.1.4 Inspected; included Supports declared extraction, attribution and segmentation mechanisms; no executable prompts, source code or actual extraction traces are available in this capture. Prevents claims about implemented behavior or attribution accuracy.
§3.2.1–§3.2.4 Inspected; included Supports documented generalization, clustering, conflict handling and storage representation; prevents verification of persistence, reload behavior, merge correctness or lifecycle enforcement.
§3.3.1–§3.3.3 Inspected; included Supports documented retrieval and guidelines insertion; no executable consumer or complete prompt template is supplied. Prevents verification of actual admission, prompt ordering and later use.
§4.1–§4.4, Tables 1–12 Inspected; included as reported operation Supports attributed experimental setup and reported results. No raw trajectories, evaluator code, execution artifacts or repeated-run evidence are supplied in the capture; prevents independent reproduction and treating explanatory interpretations as demonstrated causal mechanisms.
§5, references Inspected for document context; external works deliberately excluded as evidence about their systems Prevents cross-system characterizations based on this paper's comparisons. Linked documents and repositories are not captured sources.
§6 Inspected; included as declared conclusions and future directions Supports the authors' stated future multi-agent/model-family work and CUGA application claim, not verified CUGA integration or shipped multi-agent support.

The frozen evidence is the exact downloaded HTML bytes, not a moving live page or a recursively captured website. The capture label is arxiv-2603.10600v1-html-captured-2026-10-14, its SHA-256 is recorded above, and the analysis applicability cutoff is 2026-10-14. The document identifies itself as arXiv:2603.10600v1, dated 11 March 2026; later revisions and later implementation changes are excluded. The overall evidence tier is doc-grounded. No target execution was performed, and no observed-run or causal-experiment source is registered.
